I am still fairly new to the use of rifle scopes. I know that as a general rule you get what you pay for. I am looking to put a scope on either a .243 or .270 or my sporterized Mosin. I am looking at the budget priced scopes around $75-$100. What are your thoughts on these?
    Weaver Nitrex 3-10X50
Simmons Master Series Pro hunter 4-12X40
Intensity optics 3-10X44 (from what I have read is made on the equipment that was used to make the old Simmons 44 mag series)
    Millet 6-18X40
I will primarily be shooting at the range at a distance of 100yds. Maybe some big game hunting or coyote control.

imo there are only 2 options in your price range worth looking at.

    bushnell banner
    simmons whitetail classic (120ish)

imo simmons is the clear winner

    The 219
Center Point makes one that's hard to beat in that price range. While I have only used mine on a .22lr, its been a great scope. Decent glass, red/green illuminated reticule, holds zero, etc. I believe I have the 4-16x, and I believe you can get them at both Walmart and Dick's.

rifle scopes are simple spend $160 buy a Nikon Porstaff 3-9x40, zero the scope, put bullets through the same hole. Its that simple. I bought my first Prostaff about 9 years ago and now I have one on all of my long guns except the 22 and my 20 guage. My first one is still killing deer.

I have had real good luck with Simmons scopes. Natches shooting supplies runs sales on them all the time you might get 2 for what you want to spend.:twocents:

Too add on to my earlier message, I put a Leupold Illum Mil Dot 8.5x25 on a 308 and it was way too powerful. Thus I will be selling that scope soon!

How about the New Redfields by Leupold? I bought a 3X9 ($159?) for my Ruger 77 22-250. Been driving tacks for a year with it. Wanted American made and something that fit the 1" rings. Very satisfied!

simmons make a very good scope at a fair price.natchez shooters supplies has them at closeout prices now for sale. what ever scope you buy, get one with the ajustable objective, such as side focus. you will be able to use the scope for 22lr and larger caliber rifles. i have had very good results with the simmons scopes. no bs.

Here's something I ran across today that caught my eye. YMMV.

I have a Nitrex scope, but haven't even mounted it yet so can't speak to quality. Check out Natchez - with rebates, you can have a Nitrex pretty cheap. Or like's already been mentioned, both Natchez and Midway have some pretty smokin deals on Bushnell right now.

I've also posted this before, but you might find it helpful.

i have one on my cz 452. tracks great, glass is great, zoom range is great for a 1 inch tube. the only reason i didn't sugest it was it is 235ish after rebate. i did have a turret go out of mine. and 3 weeks after i mailed it to them i had a brand new scope and a check for my shipping costs. you cant ask more than that
