DD please know I was not :stickpoke: you about this.
We rode with a fella that was well credentialed wit the state. In a few of these actions he was not there. The couple he was were handled very differently. And yes I have some war stories from the streets. Also some really great stories. More of those thankfully.
No worries CM! I didn't take it that way. :)

I had a warmed-up Cummins in my '02 Ram-- the last year of the loud "rattle" 5.9s. It would smoke if you got ahead of the turbo, but because I kept with the stock turbo, it had very quick response and I could drive without smoke. Even in the high altitude of Cheyenne.

Or, I could slow down to 50mph, shift to 6th (manual trans) and floor it and fog out an entire 4-lane. Which I didn't. But would have if say, some jerk in a convertible that was cutting off traffic many times and I happened to be in a situation where I could contribute some justice to him.

Truck was 410hp, 920+lb-ft as measured on a dynojet248c at the rear wheels. This is pretty much as far as the stock turbo can go.

Now that I've been working at the mother ship--as a "fuel system specialist no less" I'm far more irritated by the coal rolling. Not because I don't have my truck anymore, but because I see how much work goes into creating that stock combination of parts, and also 1) it wastes fuel and 2) it's completely gratuitous.

It's the gratuitous aspect of it that bothers me most. I went out of my way to *avoid* smoke when I had my truck-- I tolerated it as the necessity of having the HP I wanted and accepted the challenge of trying to drive smoke-free.

These kids actually TRY to generate smoke. And they're proud of it.

Reminds me of others who are "proud" of something shameful.

I wouldn't ever purposely wreck someone just for irritating me. That doesn't stop me from fantasizing about it though. That and having a rocket launcher on the front of my vehicle... but I digress. :):

    Anti-Cadillac missiles?
Hoping the mounted .50 at the front of the column opens up on them?
Wishing you had a Bat Cycle with rockets & guns?
A James Bond bike that dropped anti-vehicle mines or lasers that cut the body off the frame?

Used to be a big thing down here, until the local po-po started pulling them over. At the very least they gave the rollers a ticket, more than one got to spend a night or 3 in the county lock-up. Been quite a while since I've seen any coal rolled around here, thankfully!

...and here I am trying to figure out which turns me on more- the original "Barbie Girl" video by Aqua, or the cover by Postmodern Jukebox...

I checked out the video of the latter...nope - that guy's mismatched socks is giving me a severe CDO fit.

OK, then try the "All About That Bass" cover.

...and you are looking in the wrong place.
There's something terribly wrong with a size 2 woman singing about the benefits of voluptuousness.

I attempted to watch some of their other videos because my friend thinks PMJ is the bee's knees.

Nope. I tried, I didn't like it, may I please be excused from the dinner table?

    You are excused.

    Everything isn't for everyone....and I'd say size 4.

    Doggy Daddy,
I had to build a bridge over a normally dry ditch/creek that got too high when the river gets out.
Quite by accident, I found a defect in my construction, a metal & concrete plate/slab about 6" thick that likes to pop up about 10" when I drove over it.
Not realizing the foundation settled on one end, the plate center pivoted, one end dropped & one end came up.

Now it's what I call 'Enhanced Security', the 'Down' end is weighted, and since the foundation continued to sink (probably sand under it, I didn't drive pilings) the plate now pops up about 20".
I put a levered stand under the low end, hinged in the middle, and I can drop it on command.
I've intended to put a remote on the center pivoted lever, but it's manual now, just haven't allotted the time to do it yet.

That thing would make quite the dead stop! (Which is why I didn't get around to a remote that could trip and wipe ME out...)

    ------

When the union coal mines went on strike around here, they used to drop 'Tire Jacks' in the driveways of non-union mines, trucking companies and anyone else they thought was servicing the non-union mines.
A tire Jack is two metal rods bent 90* and welded in the bends opposed to each other, one point always lands pointing up.
In the movies, they are always sharpened to a point.
The miners flattened the ends, then cut a 'V' into the flat tip. This yanked the steel belts out of the tire and complete ruined the tire by breaking the belts.

The spy movies had cars that dropped these on the highway to disable chasing vehicles.
I wonder how many of those giant off road tires they would have to buy before they got the message?

    ---------

One thing about the smoke fogging A-holes, they never got a mouth full of that smoke or they wouldn't do it.
You can't get that out of your mouth/cloths, off your skin.
We stopped at the truck stop just before 465 and washed up, still stinking all day... Even after a shower, we both had black crud caked to our eyes after sleeping.

I'd REALLY like to 'Educate' that moron the way A-holes got 'educated' in the 60s-70s, and in the Marines... I'm still mad about it...

I don't know about personal vehicles, but DOT vehicles (big trucks) CAN be impounded on the spot instead of just a ticket, although they usually get tickets...
It used to be a $5,000 fine for defeating emissions controls back when people were taking off catalytic converters, if a shop got caught doing it the fines started at $15,000.

I kind of wish Indiana still had vehicle inspections, there are WAY too many beat up, broken down, rusted out s**t boxes on the highways...
If you can't afford to maintain a vehicle, you can't afford a vehicle, plain & simple.
It seems like every 5th vehicle I meet has a headlight out,
Way too may don't have tail lights, turn signals or brake lights,
You see someone try to stop and the vehicle dives left or right over the lane lines from brakes not working...
You can't spend 2 minutes in any parking lot without someone grinding worn out brake backing plates on rotors dragging the one working brake/tire on the pavement... That's like fingernails on a chalkboard to me...

On personal vehicles, I doubt police want to write a "defeating emissions equipment" ticket. Proving that case is a pain. You have to hire someone who can establish exactly what was done to the vehicle.

That's why there is an "excessive fumes or smoke" statute. See the smoke, write the ticket. No evidence about what was or was not done to the vehicle necessary.

My Dad and I both worked as calibrators at Navistar. We would spend countless hours and thousands of dollars using very expensive equipment, measuring just about everything to get the most we could out of the engines, while still keeping them bullet-proof.

It's irritating to see people jack with the fuel and timing tables, blow up the engine, and then complain about how it's junk.

My 4yr old and I were out in the Miata last week and a Ram with a Cummins drove past me and turned on the smoke. Really? Smoking out a 4yr old. Good on you. you're awesome. I also most likely had a hand in building your engine.

I love calls for more government interference

Just out of curiousity and truly not to stir the pot (IKR?) if the mechanism of interference is already in place then is enforcing that mechanism interference? I mean the same could be said for existing gun laws. Every time there is a shooting the cry out from the gun community is to enforce the existing laws rather than add more laws; isn't what's being called for upthread the same thing?
