Only mechanical locks for me, preferably the level 2 (or whatever S&G calls the version above base model) or better. Best advice I was given by a locksmith was to turn the dial slowly so that you could almost read the numbers as you rotated it. I.e. don't spin the ***** to quickly get to your next digit.

My only concern is remember the combo after an extended time away.

I bought a bank grade Mosler with a La Gard top line digital lock locked with the door open for $175. It weighs 4400# & is made of all kinds of metals pressed together 1.25" thick some drill proof, torch proof, etc. I called the 3 locksmiths in Kalamazoo & all said if I brought it by on the way home they'd change the combo for $75 until I said LaGard & the model , none could touch it. I found the exact lock with the dial & all the parts still sealed in the bag on Ebay for $15+ $10 shipping. I just changed the battery this week & will once a year as my battery is inside the safe but the dial does have a set of contacts you can hold a battery on if yours went dead. If you enjoy history like I do you'll enjoy this. https://lettersofnote.com/2010/09/16/your-products-are-stronger-than-the-atomic-bomb/
