You can think that all you like, but that doesn't make it true. The law is blindingly clear and it's been discussed on INGO many times over (so often, in fact, that it's discussed in the INGO FAQ twice). Please don't spread misinformation that's likely to get someone dinged for carrying without a license the way this guy did:

Nope they aren't wrong, that is the law in Indiana. Doesn't matter what the law in Illinois is.

    well

then i guess if you dont have an ltch then do what you may....... i know i may have broken that law several times before obtaining an ltch???.. but with all the retarded a$$ laws governing all of us law abiding citizens and the fact that the legal code book is insanely long and poorly written ,preventing easy interpretation of said laws for us to follow i guess we still dont get a pass... i would challenge most all on this site that most lawyers dont know most of the legal code nor do judges let alone leo's!!!!!!!!!! how are we as normal folks supposed to know all of these things???? dont say educate yourselves either!!!! we all break laws on a regular basis and have no awareness of it... the only reason people on forums like this are so knowledgeable because its a shared topic of interest.... and thanks to all because i learned something new today!!!!!!!! yay for me!!!!!!!

Unfortunately educate yourself is the only answer. I learned very early on that Carrying a gun is a huge responsibility and with the responsibility comes educating yourself and others. Knowing the Laws that apply to carrying a gun may be the only way to protect yourself. Your right, a lot of LEO's don't know the law, which is why you should.

You are new here but you will pick up on laws very quickly here, to the point that you really never need to look things up on your own.

    Welcome to INGO!!:ingo:

One thing that wasn't addressed yet. It is technically illegal to have a handgun in your possession on someone else's property without a LTCH. While I haven't heard of anyone being charged with it for just shooting at a range with someone who has a LTCH. There was a case in IN where a woman was charged and convicted for carrying a handgun without a LTCH at her parents house. Although she did just shoot one or both (can't remember I know she shot her mom not sure about dad) with it though, which I'm sure factored into it. Sorry I can't find a link to it right now. I'll keep looking though.

Dont think you can get in trouble for shooting at a range or someones property w/o a LTCH since often peoples kids or relatives will try out their guns. I guess as long as one person has theirs should not be an issue since they can just say the guns are theirs?

Children are specifically allowed to do this in another section of law. If you read the law literally, it reads "possession." The argument could be made that by holding it, you are possessing it and are in violation of the law. You said you "don't think you can get in trouble...." There's nothing in the law that says this or affirms this. It simply would come down to the LEO and judge's definition of possession.

Or as said below to and from your fixed place of business and home.

    That's not correct.

Nowhere below does it say you can carry back & forth between home & work.

Yes I know now, I actually corrected myself in another thread after reading through the IC again, forgot I had posted in this one as well.
