So now that he no longer has a Democrat House, and no longer has a filibuster-proof Senate, and now that he can't get exactly what he wants, should he compromise and work with the Republicans to get SOME of what he wants, or should he hold tight to his principles and take nothing if he can't get exactly what he believes?

I ask myself, "Dan, what would be better for you?"

I hope he stands on principle and refuses to compromise.

Yeah I'm with Ranger. Obama has no principles. His telepropter, on the other hand, ...

The leftist are leaving the White House in droves. They aren't abandoning Obama. They've accomplished their short term goals and are going back underground to find and groom the next patsy President. Probably a gay Asian woman. She'll be on the Democratic ticket in about 14 years.

Hopefully he sees that his time as the WORST PRESIDENT IN THE HISTORY OF THE US has done nothing more than weaken this great Constitutional Republic and quits and goes back to Kenya where is nasty A** came from...

Not sure if he has the wits and/or savvy to pull a Clinton.

His principles don't go left or right, they go up and down. He's principled big government. Once you understand that, it's easier to get into his head.

He has principles. Socialist principles. I'd say he's been more principled than most Presidents of the last 40 years. The fact that you might be completely opposed to his principles doesn't mean he doesn't have them.

Yea he is going to veto the debt limit legislation.

Ofcourse we know he was against it before he was for it.

If he is a man of principles he'll stick to his guns. I'd really like to see that, but he's already caved to the republicrats once on a major issue. He's likely to do it again as he tries to govern from a center left position or even tries to slide to the center.

I agree. He is a principled bolshevik IMO. He hates this country and most of what it stands for. He feels we should be brought down to the same level as the turd world. His father believed that way and now so does the son. I have no doubt he is a true believer. People unfortunately haven't listened to him when he spoke. He is on the record as believing in a socialist utopia. He has been trained at the knees of various radicals. He is a true believer.

The point of this little thread was to illustrate that it's better for those who oppose Obama if he refuses to compromise with the Republicans. If he refuses to compromise, like with the Travers appointment, he gets nothing. If he were to come up with a different candidate, for instance, one whose anti-gun stance was less known, we might end up with a head of ATF who would do real damage. Instead, he sent Travers up again, which means we'll avoid an anti-gun ATF head for a while.

If he decides to work with the Republicans, he'll advance his agenda, just more slowly. If he stands on uncompromising principle, he'll get nothing.

Except that Dems control the Senate, and they could ratify Travers. The reality is that he'll be appointed Acting Director of BATFE, as has every Director since realignment.

He'll recess appoint Travers, and we will have an anti-gun Director.

I have been critical of the Republicans as the "just say no" party. There are genuine bi-partisan issues that need to be addressed and simply opposing them to not give Obama an accomplishment is just plain wrong and not good for the country. If both sides stick to their principles, we'll see stalemate in some areas. Since it's unlikely in the foreseeable future that either party will have a filibuster proof senate along with control of the house and the presidency, those stalemates will likely continue.

On the other hand, there are some genuine issues such as tax reform and immigration that both parties claim they want to tackle. Is it too much to be optimistic? Obama seems be alienating some of the left. Is this an indication that he's willing to work with, if not the right, at least the centrists? This could be an interesting couple of years.

I have been critical of the Republicans, not saying NO nearly enough. :patriot:

Oblamo can veto the debt ceiling legislation all he wants, the Repub's will let the govt shut down. I for one wish they would. The Pres will never go for limits on his ability to spend money for his transformation. Congress will send the legislation because they know "We the People" have had it. They have no choice. a vote to continue is a sure fire way to lose your job in the next election. I think Oblamo would rather not go "center" and be a one termer than cave and have to forego his agenda. I could be wrong though, he caved pretty quick on the tax extension. We will know soon enough!
