i was thinking about getting a truck or backseat gun incase shtf while im out, my edc is a G26 so i was looking for a 9mm carbine, i came across 3... the very easy to store kel-tec sub2000, the super ugly hi-point carbine, or the beretta storm.... im just going to put it out there that i feel a $700ish gun is too expencive to leave in a trunk or under a backseat, and ive herd the kel-tecs have bad triggers and just arnt fun, however you can get them to except glock mags so i can run a 33rnd if i feel the need, but i have herd alot of good things about the hi-point, actually the only negative is that they only offer a 10rnd magazine, i herd about a 15rnd but they have bad reviews (ftf) so im thinking something to get me home that has a more range than my G26, is this a good idea, also the CTD has them with a scope for 260, so thats more in my price range anyway... any ideas or comments?

I was thinking the kel-tec because of the glock mags, I can get the 15 or 17 round ones and maybe even a 33 and if something happens to it during a situation the same mags would still be able to fit in my glock.... an sks would be nice, slightly outta my price range and won't help my consolidate ammo.

I just got a 40 S&W sub 2000 and like it. Very small and compact. Although you cant compare just base prices. There are a number of things that it requires to be added (Extended butt stock, tacticool additions etc.) My biggest beef with the sub 2000 is its biggest advantage. Because it folds it is very prohibitive to mounting anything on the top of the rifle, such as a quick sighting holographic sight, or a scope. If you look on the www.ktog.com forum, you will see all sorts of modifications, some which make sense, others just for "giggles". Look for sub2000 PORN.

and incidentally, my 2 cents. the Hi point must have some very redeeming shooting qualities, cause anything that butt fugly has got to have other virtues... :D

Ever thought about looking into the draco ak's?

I think they would be the ultimate truck gun, and can be found new for about $350.

I should have let you shoot the Sub2000 when I saw you at WWR. I'm not sure if I'd brought it that day. Was it on the table?

Next time I'm out there I'll drop you a PM. The trigger isn't so great. You can judge for yourself. Plenty accurate.

    Where's the bacon?
Mosin-Nagant M44. You won't consolidate ammo, but on the upside, even if you miss, the shockwave will pulverize your enemy.
Once the fighting's done, you also have a bayo you can fold out for shish-ke-bobs. :):

I have went back and forth on the trunk gun thing. I have the thought in my head that if I were carrying a long gun down the road then I would be a prime target for police or bad people to focus on. Also, good people aren't going to stop and give you a ride if you are packing an SKS while walking down the road.

good luck trying to find a Sub2k in glock 9mm. Been loking for some time and they are few and far between. None are in stock anywhere and no one can tell you when they will be getting any in either! I am looking to only run 9mm for g19 and sub2k. Got a couple of 33rnd mags from natchez shooters supplies for $28 (oem glock) which will work in either weapon! On the waiting list for the subbie!

SHTF? Not sure I would be walking on the road anyway? Better to beat feet off the road and go cross country I would think. You do make a good point though, and I see it making it difficult to get help if you got a flat....

I can't imagine anyone planning to walk anywhere carrying a 8 or 9 pound rifle. Well, maybe people who've never walked anywhere carrying a rifle.

A sub2k has weight going for it but I couldn't keep a straight face saying any PCR granted 'extended range'.

Have you guys looked at the MechTech conversion uppers? You use their upper and your Glock lower to make a decent carbine. I did a review a couple weeks ago on the G21 in .45ACP. Get the folding stock and it would fit quite well in a trunk or under a seat. You use you Glock mags, so capacity isn't a problem.

I'd like to find a .40 for the beretta mags...I also wish they made one for XD mags, that would work too..

OP, I have the CX4 and love it, but as you stated, a bit too pricey for me to leave in the truck. ^^^looking for a suitable sub2k^^^ to fill that purpose.

My Hi-Point is fugly, even more so by the home brew paint job the last owner did on it. I hate the low capacity mags. I like the trigger OK. Decent enough accuracy at least to 25 yards or so open sights. Haven't stretched out any distance yet. The prices are nice. Could get one, test fire it and dump it in the trunk or wherever and know it is there waiting for you.

I would never buy a Storm just because of the price. I think they are a bit on the homely side as well. I did carry a pistol grip shotty in my car for years. Always there, never a problem.

Now we get back to what you consider SHTF. What are you thinking you will come up against on your journey home? Zombies (undead version) can be easily dispatched with a nice .22 rifle at a decent distance. Zombies (not undead version) can be taken with a .22 as well, but a little better firepower could be useful.

Are you thinking of just a spray and pray type scene? Keep shooting to keep heads down until you get to a better place? Do you think it will be gangs of thugs coming toward you or just a guy bent on a little mayhem?

I have a spare pistol in my GHB. I always (with few exceptions) have my EDC on me as well. I also have a spare revolver in the truck. It is ugly. Accurate enough at close range. Blows fire a mile wide it seems, but I always know it is there.

In a scenario where I am forced to abandon the vehicle I will grab the bag and the spare pistol as well. I will then head toward the nearest safe looking ditch and be as quiet as I can while making a beeline toward the house or a cache.

This is just for a SHTF scenario that sneaks up on me. If I knew it was happening already I would break out the gear I have at home and head out prepared. This is because I would only leave the safe house if I absolutely had to. Maybe a family member or friend is trapped and needs an evac.

Whoops, got way off topic here. Sorry for that. Back to OP, I like my Hi-Point. It is cheap and if I scratch it who would notice anyhow?

Shouldn't you have the bayonet out during firing due to barrel harmonics or does it just have to be attached?
