All I said is 2 things:

    1) I learned about "Runaway" from the intro to Crime Story in 1986, and

    2) Del Shannon recorded the version of "Runaway" used for the intro. By definition, a recording by the original artist is not a cover.

My values and comportment would place me closer to "The Silent Generation" (of which my parents were and are members) rather than the Boomer generation.

Heck, I see all those Boomers memeing about "Keep you hands off my Social Security" and Millenials trying to go full socialist and I realize that if these 2 generations ever realize how much they have in common, the rest of us are screwed.

The difference is: I paid into social security for almost 50 years. Those little **** Millennials are living on mom and staying in her basement.

Give me back what I paid in and my employers paid into social security and you can cancel the program. Socialism my ass.......

    .
I remember manufacturing here in Indiana in the 70s and 80s, lots of places to work, lots of people employed, a great many with black faces. When NAFTA was passed in the 90s and democrats actually voted for it I thought they were committing political suicide back then. Didn't happen, so I'll wait and see if things change, but you're right, they really don't owe the democrats a thing.

You sure remember something totally different than I do. In 73 the the oil embargo began a series of devastating economic dominos falling. For the first time ever unions were give wage adjustments. Unemployment was high and the markets were down. Crime was rampant. McDonalds in Noblesville had 400 applications for a single maintenance position. Yep it was a high rolling time. Not everyone did bad, but if one was starting at the bottom in late 70's or early 80's it was not until the Regan economy took off that the growth began...

    You ALREADY got it back!
The .gov has used the funds in ss to fund every portion of .Gov programs for a long time now.
    Highway improvements
    Welfare expansion
    The oversea wars for oil
    The space telescopes
    Medicare expansion
    Studies on healthcare items
    Etc....

There is no money left at SS.
There is a 5 drawer security lock at ssa hq that has a bunch of I.O.U that the .Gov gave to SS for all the money it has borrowed. Those I.O.U are in the form of us bonds.

    In real world terms.
You have $100 in checking. You write yourself a check for $75 to yourself to cash next year POST xmass. But this black friday you blow all $100 on gifts. How much you still have left?

    $0.00 right?

Nope!! Per .Gov math you have that $75 check you can just cash!!!

If you cash that check your bank will bounce it.
If .Gov cashes those bonds where are they gonna get the money for it???

Raise taxes or take it from the 401ks or just reduce the ss benefits like they have done before.

It shows a fundamental misunderstanding of double entry bookkeeping, the nature of trust funds of the US Government, the national debt and the Federal Reserve system and Treasury Department.

If one doesn't understand accounting, there is no use debating the topic.

Like Trump says: "what have you got to lose?" by giving him and Republicans a chance.

This say presupposes that someone doesn't have something to lose. Or that their state of being, is so low, it can't be any worse. It's a sentiment that isn't often taken very well by the intended audience. But just for the sake of argument, let's entertain it. The question, I'd have to ask, is "what have I got to gain?" and "why would supporting him allow me to attain it?" and "what has prevented me from getting it in the first place on my own?"

Sadly I am not wrong on this one.
KLB is correct on that one word.
And the 5 drawer locked cabinet is NOT a lie.
It's all a numbers game and we, the people, already lost we just dont see it yet.

By 2032/2034 the numbers game will come to an end unless something occurs with ss.

They will have to reduce benefits, readjust the payout or increase taxes to continue for it to work.

The national debt is what...$22 trillion? We could discuss how the entire amount gets paid down (taxes, printing more money, which causes inflation/hyper-inflation---another form of tax, selling off/exchanging US assets for debt (give Yosemite to the Chinese, for example. Or sell off mineral rights).

Most of those approaches are draconian. As Cheney said "Deficits don't matter". To a certain extent, that is true in prudently managed scenarios. But politics and prudence are somewhat mutually exclusive.

The question, I'd have to ask, is "what have I got to gain?"[an end to dependence] and "why would supporting him allow me to attain it?" [because he isn't proposing to give them anything, only open the way to attain it for themselves] and "what has prevented me from getting it in the first place on my own?"[the need by Democrats to foster predictable en bloc voting]

I take that to mean that Democrats aren't doing much for blacks right now, so if they abandon the Democrats for the Republicans their loss will be small/non-existent and outweighed by potential gains

Should I expect Democrats to do things for Black people, other than defend my rights? Please tell me. I'm all ears.

True. And it also might be time to look at the indirect drains on the program outside of OA . (SD for example. Widely abused)

It's a failure of will, but more importantly it's a failure of trust

It wouldn't be terribly difficult to come up with a plan to stop digging the hole (end deficit sopending) and add a minimal surcharge onto taxes dedicated to existing debt reduction. It could be entirely retired in something like 38 years, but the boon for investors would take place long before then

The problem is, no one trusts congress to keep their hands out of any new money we allow them to have; nor can a multi-decade mechanism be envisioned to accomplish the project which couldn't be corrupted. Thus, an attempt to fix the problem won't be made until it becomes large enough to force the issue - by which time it might not be soluble without a whole lot of pain

Man I feel you here. My 1st entry into the bottomless pit of SS was in the summer of 1964. Last was late summer of 12.
