About five years ago a buddy of mine and me were squirrel hunting in parke county. We both walked up on a snake that we had seen and it started rattling at us! Had no clue rattlesnakes lived around here.

Then as we were walking out, we swore we seen a cougar walking across the field about two hundred yards in front of us. Turned out one had gotten loose from its owner a couple days before.

That was a pretty weird day

    Hmm.. do tell!

P.S. I want my porn back...

When I was a teen we used to explore the woods around my house and play in this old barn that was out there as part of an abandoned 19th century homestead. One day we were in there and had built a "fort" out of old straw bales in the hay loft. Another kid jumped into a pile of loose straw and got one of his feet caught in something. That something was the chest cavity of an 11 month decayed corpse. The corpse belonged to a sixty something year old man who had been charged with child molesting. He disappeared before his trial and had been presumed to have run from the law. The reality was that he climbed up into the hay loft of this barn and eaten a .38 special. We had been playing in there for months without realizing he was in there. When my friend "found" him, and after the authorities removed him, the barn just wasn't the same. It smelled something terrible and I have no idea how we didn't smell him before his discovery. We didn't go back in there much after that.

The pig was found in yet another abandoned barn about a half mile from the one mentioned above. This one was only about 50 yards off the road so it was far from being hidden. We used to go in there and shoot BB guns and hang out. One day we went in there and found the mutilated pig, satanic paraphernalia, candles and other weird crap. It was kinda spooky.

The DeSoto Firedomes were in a ravine behind the pig barn. They were complete, save for the interiors which had long since rotted away, but obviously had been torn up and dumped. This was close to a place that was a common trash dump. I took all the chrome off both hulks and sold it on Ebay for a couple hundred bux:cool:

Behind the pig barn were a couple cisterns and a well. A friend and I excavated them to see what kind of treasures we could find. We found a bunch of old bottles, some plates and pottery, bunches of unidentifiable crap and one old winchester lever gun. It was just rusted metal parts but a cool find none the less.

In the woods around the dead dude barn, we were out plinking with our airguns one day and found this box that wasn't there before. It was one of those big moving type boxes and was all taped up. We investigated and found inside the largest stash of porn I have ever seen. Magazines, tapes, polaroids....lots of nekkidness.

    1. While turkey hunting one spring I had dekes in a field set up and had 2 Blue Herons land in them. they hung around for a minute or two then flew off. Pretty awesome.
    2. At a different time but the same field I had a Great Horned Owl take the head off one of my dekes before it got light. I saw the shadow coming in and after smacking the deke he lit in a nearby tree and went nuts hooting. that was pretty cool too!
    3. I ran across a copperhead one oct. day bowhunting.

Right out in the middle of a nowhere forest was the burned out frame and chassis of an old (early 30s) automobile. Had a couple of trees growing up through it and others right around it. Obviously the area had been an open field at one time, but it sure wasnt when I found the car. A little unsettling.

    In order of most interesting:

    Dead guy.
    Mutilated pig with satanic grafiti.
Pair of Hemi Firedome DeSoto cars at the bottom of a cliff.
Winchester levergun at the bottom of an old cistern.
    Huge stash of porn.
I hope you are kidding about #1.Been there done that and it was a bad expirience.

Yes, we have rattle snakes and copperheads in Indiana. We also have cougar/mountain lion/puma here as well as bobcats. We have bobcats around our house here in Morgan co. from time to time, in Brown co. as a youth I experienced copperheads and rattlers on a regular basis. Also in Brown co. at the age of about 12-13 I had a cougar jump out of my grandfathers hay loft right over the top of my head and took off running up the hillside into the woods. I called the DNR to report it and they laughed at me telling me there hadn't been any in Indiana for over a hundred years....dumb kid.....I knew better and really got a good laugh when joggers and bicyclists started getting eaten by them a few years back....must have been their imaginations...

Came across a rattlesnake in summer 09 just off the Nebo Trail. Dog found it first. Showed it to the wife and kids.

Once my wife and I were in a state park (I believe Harmonie) and we came across some eagles.

I also had a great horned owl fly over me while I was out turkey hunting this fall. I was amazed at how big it was.

While turkey hinting alone in the Mark Twin forrest, I was Way off the road and heard a woman screaming and moaning as if in pain. I walked towards it and there I found this big, lifted old 4WD truck that had bushwacked off the road. There was I thought to be forced.....um well you know. I ran to the rescue only to get chewed out, shoved and called a pervert for "sneaking up on them"

Last fall we found a whole rabbit without a scratch in a deer stand 15 feet in the air.

I saw a hawk grab a big fox squirrel and they were having the fight of their life in mid air, Not sure who won.
While bird hunting in Iowa years ago with my Dad, the dogs went on point. My Dad went in to flush and a covey of quail went everywhere. They flew right towards me in between us so neither of us could shoot. I instinctivly swatted at one with the butt of my gun and killed one dead. I know tough to believe, but I had a witness.
One year while walking to my stand in gun season I walked within 10 yards of an unsuspecting doe. SHe was so close I thought I'd try a head shot with my 44. I "missed"
The next year I shot a doe with my bow with a perfect 44 cal hole in her big ole ear.
Sorry, I dont have any real crazy stories like my wife splitting wood!

I was running from these guys who were chasing me. I lit off into the woods but it was raining pretty hard and cold. I got away from them, but then slid down this hill. It was dark by then and I was wet, cold, and tired. I found this old jeep looking vehicle in the middle of the woods. I got in to get out of the rain and get warmed up and there was a dead guy in the driver's seat. I took his jacket and hat. Didn't really want to but I was wet and cold. He also had a lighter and a bag full of envelopes. Some of them I burned to get warm and some of them were letters and I read them. I took the mail bag with me when I left the next morning and it ended up coming in real handy. The people in the next town were not going to let me in town but when I called out the names on the envelopes, one of the people answered and then they let me in and fed me.

Ummmm, okay is there a punch line? Is this a movie plot that I'm missing?
