Social security benefits should not be taxable if you paid in. That social security withholding was paid into the system from income that was taxed. We don't get deductions from our gross income for the social security tax we pay.

Social Security was sold to America in a different way than it became administered. Something I probably agreed with Reagan at the time. But I was young. I was on team Reagan. Fool me once...

Socialism is much like cancer...a creeping disease.

I volunteer at one of those places - I file a lot of 1040s w/ SSI and 1040R's.

I smell an incomplete story. Maybe they have to pay back SSI for some reason?

Or they start a Go Fund Me and make bank until the truth comes out.

Nothing changed that would affect this, AFAIK.

"Take it away from you" That rings slightly odd when you're talking about receiving money from .gov.

There's a reason they call SSA "the third rail". And there's a reason I don't depend on it being there when I retire.
    In order of appearance

    1. congratulations, thank you. what ever you like.

    2. It is an incomplete story, my wife told it to me from a post she read on the www. Good olfactory sense you got there.

    3. Don’t know, don’t care, don’t deal with that stuff.

    4. Don’t know anything about the tax prep business, but I do know my home and ag ground taxes went up this tax prep season. I’ll know the amount when we get the documents back. I’ll just make the assumption you do some farm work and call it good.

    5. “Take it away from you”, What do YOU call it when you have worked, (earned the taxed money), bought, (with the taxed money) and paid for a thing + the tax on it, and some one TAKES it away from you because you OWE taxes?

    5. A. “Receiving money from the .gov”. I wouldn’t be receiving it if they hadn’t taken it from me in the past. I certainly could have made better investments with MY money if they hadn’t taken it to begin with.

    6. I also freely admit I don’t know a single thing about rails, first, second, or third. What I do know is my Grandparents, and my wife’s family have both lost farms (generational farms) due to the existing banking and tax laws. And similar and I do mean similar to you, I don’t depend on any government or man for mine or my families future.

Thanks for you’re input to my rant.

Confucius say, "he who pees on the errectric fence rearns the resson better than everyone else."
I didn’t say we were a smart family, but by god we do eventually learn.

Now? How to teach the sheep (shearable stock) next in line that think they are smarter than 8 generations in the New World!!!

You can tell ‘em and tell ‘em and tell ‘em, or you can let them pee on the fence. It’s actually quicker and more effective.

Shoot, it’s you’re moral duty to lead them to the fence.

In a single year, to owe $6,800 in federal income tax (with no withholding), a couple married filing jointly would have to make around $89,000.

Also in a single year, if we add Indiana state tax in the mix, a person would have to make a bit over $70,000 (with no withholding) to have a tax liability of $6,800.

There can be some variations with credits and such, but not a lot. Something doesn't seem quite right about this story.
Where there overpayments in SS that .gov is clawing back? That could drastically increase what they are being charged.

Whatever $ you paid in taxes this year be it small or large it was spent by the liberal idiots in our government led by that senile old man Uncle Joe in a nano-second.
    What a waste down the :toilet2: !
