I would say we are less than a year away. LE wants these weaponized.

That is quite simply Bull Excrement. Any LEA that has lawyers on staff will have to cover their eyes and ears as their chief counsel's head explodes at the thought of the legal liability of using an armed, remotely piloted aircraft for ANY purpose. Look at it this way, many LEAs have armed aircrews in their observation helicopters; how many times do those officers use their weapons from a helicopter? You may point out police snipers trained to shoot from helicopters, but again, how many times are such things used? Now think about the dangers and liability inherent in doing such things by remote control.

You boys don't get out much, do you. It isn't generally the money, as such, it's the awful publicity and the fact that, if they go against their lawyers, their political bosses are likely to fire them. And if you look at the crap storm in the community when a 6' 230 pound "kid" gets roughed up when he attacks the cops arresting his brother, what do suppose will happen the first time some gets "tased" or "shot" by an armed UAV?

Yep, there's such a stigma and publicity has so much influence, we never hear about cops being drunk on the job. And the ones we do hear about being drunk on the job are fired immediately.

There's a world of difference between being a "misbehaving" cop and being the chief LEO of an agency that puts an armed UAV into service in a jurisdiction. (Hint: it involves politics.)
