It wasn't for everyone by a long shot and not in the same way anyhow.

They just wanted to keep seamen safe... so good news there eh?

Can I just say too, what is with the liberals here? Are you just plants that are sent here for some political purpose or are you just confused as to what side wants to disarm you?

    no,,,you cant... thats a threadjack...

    :hijack:

you can talk about the founding fathers version of obama care...

There's a difference. If you didn't want to participate, you didn't have to be a Seaman.

so socialized medicine is ok,,,as long as its for a particular job???

thats some serious socialism... where did all these liberals come from around here???

so all obama has to do is include each job in america by name in obamacare,,,and youre ok with obamacare???

and what if obama said,,,dont want to participate,,,dont be an american!!! how is that different than what yo said???

This is more akin to a union than Obamacare.

    unions have government hospitals???

I don't know that the act in the article was neccessarily constitutional as there was no mention of a constitutional challenge. It sounded like everyone wanted to do this to help build up our trade so they did it and no one ever challenged the constitutionality of the act. It might make an interesting project for a law school class.

just be careful---it might also show that the constitution wasnt ever meant to be taken totally literally,,,they started breaking it as soon as it was ratified...

History shows that both sides have been more than happy in their attempts to disarm us and infringe on our rights.

The author of that article was attempting to drive home his opinion that you have NO such right. Is that what you and OP are trying to prove, that we have no right to be free of government mandated health insurance? Or that Thomas Jefferson was a statist? Or what, exactly? The muddled, contradictory, confused arguments that the libertarian anarchist weltanschauung crowd keep tossing out are as tangled as the Gordian knot. Is there some sort of point here?

If that's your point, then you might want to inform your cheerleading section that they've bet on the wrong pony.

As usual, you're so far off in the hinterlands that you'll never make it back. I wasn't supporting the OP or the story, simply pointing out for Tim that both parties are the enemy.

what point??? i didnt write the article???

talking here is sometimes like Hunt for Red October,,,being on a USSR sub with a political officer who makes sure that only a certain message is ever said and that other facts get buried...

So you had no point in posting it. Typical.

"Both parties?" Which would those be? The Federalists or the Democratic-Republicans as those were the two that had a hand in this?

As is typical, you didn't read what I wrote but were listening to the voices in your head. I said "liberal". I did not say any party. This is a typical distraction of liberals. Whenever someone calls out a liberal as a liberal they run to Democrat vs. Republican.

I'm reminded to stand clear as you demonstrate how to untangle it. :)
