Socialism Is So Bad For Economies That A Video Game’s Currency Is Now Worth Astoundingly More Than Venezuela’s

Per Google, one U.S. dollar is worth 68,915 bolivar.

Compare that to the price of WoW tokens, official in-game credits that can be used to extend a player’s play time or buy in-game items. Tokens can be bought with either $20 real world cash or sold for a fluctuating amount of in-game gold. One tracking service lists the current gold price of a token as 203,035 pieces. That works out to about 10,152 gold gaming pieces per USD.

By those calculations, World of Warcraft virtual gold would be worth 6.8 times as much as the bolivar.

If you factor in the black market rate of the bolivar, though, the difference is even more staggering. Dolar Today, which tracks the black market rate of the bolivar, seems to say the currency’s current value is 636,771.03 per U.S. dollar.

By that figure, WoW gold would be worth nearly 62 times as much as Venezuela’s official currency.

Time to start mining...fishing...er, whatever it is one does in WOW to get gold.

While I see plenty of bots running around picking flowers and mining ores... I make my millions from playing the market.

Haven't spent real money on a World of Warcraft subscription in years since they introduced the Tokens. Wish I'd bought up a bunch back when they were super-cheap, though... Pretty amazing, almost like investing.

Tokens being worth $20... I think they were about 10,000 gold early on. Last one I got was about 240,000...

Nintendo has released the details of their online service for the Switch.

"Save data cloud backup" - this is something that both Microsoft and Sony do already, for free. Nintendo will be the first that requires a paid plan to backup your games (which, if you send in your Switch for repairs, it's unlikely Nintendo Support can preserve your saves.)

Current online play (which has been free since launch) will now require this service... which is either $4/month, $8/3mo, or $20/yr. Not too steep, I suppose. Certainly rivals the $60 price tag of PS+.

... Granted, PS+ gives you "free" modern games as long as you're subscribed. Nintendo is only saying they'll give you "NES games"

My Plantronics Gamecom headset is starting to die. They still work great for me, but apparently others are starting to hear themselves echo (hardly my problem until it affects how they are talking while simultaneously hearing themselves to back to themselves). It appears they are no longer making them (this was my second set after my first died after a reasonable time in service), so does anyone have a suggestion for a decent headset in the $50 range that will last a decent number of years?
