It seems to me there's a fairly universal rule to be applied here.
The classification of documents and their handling are not limited to specific government agencies. The Secretary of State would regularly handle information classified as Top Secret and Compartmentalized.
Having even lowly For Official Use Only documents found on your personal, home system can get you fines and or jail time depending on why you have them. Secret and above should bring down a hoard of data mites to confiscate destroy your systems and find out exactly what it is you are doing with it.

Apparently, it's just not that odd for politicians to be using their own private email while in office. Lots of them have and probably still are doing it. And some of them are running for president. Let us not forget that Palin also used a private email while in office, and she's a darling of the right.

Right. And Scott walker once used a private email account when he ran a Wisconsin county, very similar to the US Secretary of State position. His daughter probably used a pseudonym in the communications too.
