Walmart? K-Mart? What were those? Never heard of them in the remember when days.

We had a Sears & Roebuck in the nearest town that sold appliances, tools, motorcycles and guns. Bought my first rifle there, a Win-94 in .30-30. My first gun though came from the LGS that a guy ran out of a converted garage down the road; a .410 bolt gun lost in a robbery at my parents house.

My dad bought a motorcycle there that he rode to work a couple of years, it still sits in my garage like that Win does in my safe.

In 1965 or '66 I ordered a P14 Enfield from Kliens in Chicago for $19, I really wanted a M17 Enfield 3006 but they were $10 dollars more and my dad had all the stuff to reload 303. In a week or so the UPS guy delivered a M17 Eddystone for the same price as the P14. There was a note in the box that said they were out of the P14s so they sent me the 3006. I ruined that old rifle shooting corrosive military ammo @ $6 a hundred.

Mossberg? That was my first "real" gun. I also lost mine in a break-in when I lived in Lafayette back in the early 80's. I've come really close to getting another one at shows more times than I can count but have never have brought myself to do it yet.

This is just like the one I had (model 183D-C):

SKS' used to live on pallets at the gunstore that was my first LGS of choice. $99 u-pick.

One day, some guy was in the store fondling his loaded 45 (against the wishes and request of the store owner), the dude ended up having a ND and shot a stack of rifles.

He shot through5 boxes and several stocks. The store owner gave him a choice. Buy the five damaged rifles or he was going to call the police. The guy had just left to go get $500 when I arrived at the store.

I always wondered if the guy kept them.

    I wish I had bought 5 of them at $99 a piece.

I remember years and years and years ago, going to the 1500.
You could take your pick of SKS's out of a 20 rifle military crate, for $49 each and you got 1000 rounds of 7.62x39 for free with the purchase.
Those were the days that you could actually still get deals at the Indy 1500.

Sadly I was a kid (18 or 19) and broke. Only had enough money to buy ammo and "essentials" back then.

Thirty some odd years ago I purchased two SKSs for 125-150 or there about. One was a paratrooper version with 16" barrel. They were so inexpensive I kept one in our hunting cabin...and buried one in a cache.....

I once bought an FN-49 for $250, also a Mini-14 for about the same...I bought a 1970 Dodge Charger for $1500, traded it and a turntable and $200 for a '70 Super Bee. My dad bought me a '72 Ranchero GT,351c motor for $1200....ahh times have changed

Those were the days... although an El Camino was cooler than than a Ranchero.

My first Shotgun was Mossburg 5500. I didn’t have the cash for a REM 1100. I bought it from Randy’s Sporting Goods in Ft Branch, IN around 1988. I bought a 10-22 and a mini 14 at the Indy gun show about the same time. I don’t remember how I ended up with an FIE nylon Black Beauty. I still have all of them.

Now I'm recalling digging through a crate of SKSes to pick one. $175 for an SKS, expensive! On the other hand these were some rare variant that took AK mags, might be worth it.
I got one for $69 Chinese made they were advertising them as paratrooper sks. Sad part the one I had could not hit the broadside of a barn from inside the barn. I sold it for $200.

Ah yes, the old days. I bought my first car in 1973. It was a 1969 Camaro Indy Pace Car. Pure white with the orange stripes and orange and black houndstooth interior. SS 350-300, Muncie M21 4 speed with Hurst Shifter. Every option on a convertible plus A/C. It was in mint condition with very low miles. It did have the Z 11 (can’t remember the exact code) but it was the real McCoy. I paid $1850 for it and sold it a year and a half later for what I paid for it. Boy if I only knew then what I know now. Also weren’t Pythons less than $200 back then?

I remember dad yelling at my brother for spending $550 on a ‘69 Roadrunner. He wasn’t even 16 yet so that would have been 1976.
I hate thinking what that car would be worth today!
