Stop the bleeding. Apply dressing w/direct pressure. If still bleeding, apply another dressing w/direct pressure. If still bleeding, locate proximal arterial pressure point and apply pressure. If still bleeding, TQ.

I don't know anything about this so forgive me. But I kind of had it in my mind that if you need to put on a TQ that you loosen it every little bit for a very short time to allow some blood flow back to the limb. Is this just totally crazy?

I guess if you were alone then this may be pretty crazy because you could pass out and then bleed out. I am thinking more about if you have someone there with you and you are in fair proximety to medical care.

Backwards from my training and Personal Experience...

When you look at the Wound you will KNOW whether a Dressing or a will stop the flow. If it is heavy enough you think a Pressure Dressing might be needed just go straight to a TQ, then Dress the wound. Forget about trying the Proximal Artery Pressure Point, I consider it just a step below praying for the Blood flow to stop...

Once a TQ is installed NEVER loosen it. Leave that to the Surgeons at the Med Facility to do.

Even if you are 12+ Hours from a Med Facility Do NOT loosen the TQ! ;)

That's a very bad idea. You would release toxins from the "dead" part into the rest of your body. As mentioned above, leave that to the surgeons.

I would say that we would be wise to get trained instead of taking internet advise,

I've signed up for a basic class in Feburary but I won't be giving advice and Hope I never have to use it

This is a good point that I know is lost on some (perhaps not reading this, but elsewhere). The medical gear I carry is first and foremost for me, then I could also use it to help someone else if the need arises. Circumstances my prevent us from treating our own wound with pressure immediately, but there may be time to apply a tourniquet so any continuing problems can then be addressed more effectively.

When you think primarily in terms of attending to someone else who is injured, it may be less apparent why a tourniquet that you can apply quickly with one hand may be so useful.

I carry a CAT on my person at all times. I'm quite convinced from force-on-force training that self application of a tourniquet is a much better plan than trying to unwrap and bind and IBD on your own wounds during a fight.

Touriquets are great for other peoples wounds, but I'm also really concerned about personally staying conscious during a fight, and that's my main reason for carrying one.

This is a can't miss class. The important thing to realize is this training goes way beyond the firearms world. We are more likely to use medical training in out every day lives than using our weapons.

Will you know how to react after gunfire? In critical injury situations, most don’t know what they don’t know until it’s too late. This 3-day course focuses on basic, lifesaving emergency medical skills blended with weapons manipulation in live-fire, high risk scenarios. Students are expected to utilize their equipment and knowledge while under stress to “save” critically injured team members in real-life scenarios. This course is suitable for armed professionals and responsible citizens.

I marked the CAT and Izzy with red cord for identification. For now they ride loose in my bag. The black "cord" is a hair tie to keep it contained. Bad idea? Suggestions appreciated.
I had just never seen it done and had to ask...
I like to pick up tricks to make life easier...

    Bad idea?!
Try it and let us know what you think of it...

My CAT and Izzy are in designated pouches to hold them. The Blowout Kits (CAT, Izzy, 2x Compressed Gauze, and a QuikClot Gauze) I have set up are taped together, I have never really cared for it just I have not seen a better way.

How easy is it to untie with Gloves on?!

I am not a fan of ebay. However, I'd be in for two if you are gonna start a group buy.:)

I looked at that guys store for quite a while and oddly enough he sells them cheaper as single CAT's. No shipping or handling charges too. He also sells them in (I think) 3 or 4 or 5 to a package groups but the price is higher than if you bought from the single "buy it now" auction and then just changed the number to however many you wanted. :dunno:

I think, therefore, with his setup it would be silly to do a GB. First 40 people there win. Go!:D

I've been sitting on the fence regarding this for quite a while. I'm just getting started on the organizing. I'd be interested in seeing your taped together kit.

Good point on the gloves. The paracord is tied to swipe or fall out of the way. I'm not sure about the hair tie.
