I would have been armed first thing and blasted both dogs on the spot right now! Drag them over to the burn pile and been done. Fix the coop and move on with life. You waited way to long and were way to nice.

To the OP - you did what had to be done. Good on you. Follow up with the insurance angle because that's the way it is supposed to work.

On a sidenote, did you consider a warning shot? ;)

No I did not, once I got to that point, I wasn't going to give a warning shot I figured I already gave it all the chances it needed.

With the dog going off no way I would exit the house empty handed. Seeing what you did the threat would have ended there. Then call Sheriff.

    I understand how you feel.
My ex neighbor had a wacko dog that chewed through their wooden fence.
It tried to get at my old tom cat I went out with my 870 it attacked me I shot it.
I love animals and we foster rescue dogs.
I was bit once on my legs never again.
Talk to a lawyer for sure.

Good for you. Too bad it came to shooting someone's dogs, but someone should have kept those pups on a leash. You did what you had to do. Don't beat yourself up about it.

My grandfather always said that once a dog gets a taste for blood they will do it again.
I made the decision, years ago, that my livestock comes first. I spend hard earned money to buy it and feed it plus time to care for it.
Any dog that enters my property and shows aggression, gets dropped. Plain and simple.
