I want to get a 1911 to replace my xd9 subcompact and swv40... I don't want some cheap offbrand pistol. From what I've seen Springfield, Colt, Kimber, para all come to mind. I want full size, beaver tail, accuracy and reliability. Any suggestions and reasoning??
Kimber is the brand that I like the best (I've had 3 of them so far with the T.L.E. Custom II being my favorite )
But really Kimber, Springfield, Colt, Smith & Wesson, all of them are great manfacturers, its really up to you to decide since "The Best" is kinda subjective.
My favorite 1911 right now is my Kimber Compact. I have a full size Springfield, a Kimber Ultra Carry and a RIA Compact as well and the Kimber Compact seems to be the best balanced of the bunch. It has a stainless slide and an aluminum frame and carries very well but it shoots like a dream.
I got a Springfield, for less then half of what your talking, used. Stainless, it's not loaded yet, but it will be. I thought that it was a good way to go.
I would look for a nice used Kimber (pre series II), buy some Wilson 47D mags, nice holster and some practice ammo. If it is to be a CCW then I would get a compact w/ aluminum frame.
I have had springfields, kimbers and colts
Springfield best customer service because I had FTF problems they fixed
Kimber most accurate zero issues
Colt good gun zero issues just not as accurate as the kimber
