    Did she give it back?

Personally I don't see things as cursed or bad luck. Do you have kids together? If so, I'd keep and offer to one of them if you don't need the money.

Keep the rock, you may be able to reuse it in a different setting someday. Who has to know if you do? Diamonds are pretty much worthless for resale value.

ya ain't gonna like whut they'll offer........better off sell'n on CL.....

They'll only buy the gold..at low mkt.....an' STEAL the stone(s).......
Yep, agree with Harleyrider_50. Jewelry stores, pawn shops, "We Buy Silver" places won't give much of anything for it. They typically offer about 'melt' value on the gold / silver, and offer virtually zero on the diamonds / stones. Figure something like $100 - $150 for the same (design, stones, carat weight, etc.) ring they'd sell new for, say $3,300 - $3,500.

Why? Because selling a particular style ring requires a particular Buyer that wants that ring. They know they have to sell used rings at steep discounts IF that Buyer walks in, and they'd much prefer selling a new ring (at a much higher mark-up). So the ring is only worth 'scrap metal' value.

As for the stones, diamonds and other stones aren't rare, with 'rare' exception (pun intended). MAYBE if the main / solitaire stone is over 3+ carats. They have a drawer full of 'em in the back / safe in <3 carat sizes.

Further, with all the hubbub about 'blood diamonds', the fact that 'new' diamonds are now laser-etched (which they would have to do with the old stones, IF they bother), and the advent of synthesized diamonds (some of which even jewelers can't distinguish from true diamonds without costly testing), there's just not much value placed on 'used diamonds', any more.

Of course, if you want to buy a 'new' diamond (I thought diamonds were "forever"?!) from them, they'll 'shift gears' into 'sales mode' and head right into all the rhetoric about scarcity, and the '4 C's', and value, and :blahblah: and how YOU should :spend: $8,000 on that 'new' diamond which is exactly the same carat, color, cut, clarity, of the one they just offered you a 'few cents' for.

Want 'proof'? Take the ring you have, and sketch it on an envelope or napkin. Mark down the exact type, size, position, etc. of the stones in your current ring. Take that sketch to the 'Diamond Shop' and tell them you want them to make you that exact ring, see what price they quote (+/- a few $$$). NOW, take YOUR ring out of your pocket, the exact SAME ring, and see how much they'll offer ya for it. Oh, and take a mattress for you to feint onto when you hear the price difference!

So much for the 'diamonds are valuable because they're rare' :poop: DeBeers, et. al. have been peddling for decades. It's a marketing gimmick, and it's ALWAYS been a marketing gimmick.

You'll have MUCH better luck putting it on e-Bay, CraigsList, or some similar site. Even then, don't expect to get NEAR what it originally cost. Half? :dunno:
