I have not yet cleaned Dot Torture.
Like MVS, it's been years since i ran it, and once i cleaned it at 3 and 5 I quit as it becomes 50 slow fire shots and i think there are much better uses of 50 rounds. I would rather shoot b8's at 25, if i'm doing slow fire, than dot torture. I only use 2" dots for Garcia dots and the rare drill of the week now days.

I agree that it’s not the best use of 50 rounds and currently I’m not shooting anything closer than 10 yards anyway.

Going with friends tomorrow. I am going to be running from a comp belt setup, as opposed to my usual aiwb concealment. We are setting up the Standard Practice from Skills and Drills vol 1. I am getting some baseline data to see how few GM runs I can get ;) Those are old numbers and made when folks ran irons but they are still relevant skilled par times so it should be fun. I will either run an m&p 5" pc or a g45 with gpt. Haven't decided yet. If i go glock i will do some irons vs dot runs.
Page 58? Did you run them all or just the ones you reported on?

Just the ones reported on. But yes, pg 58.If i had more ammo i would have ran them at match pace for comparison but as it was, i only ran at pace for par to see what it looked and felt like.

Next time we get together we're setting up some classifiers and seeing what we can put down. Those I'll do two runs. Zero or hero like above and controlled.

So I don't know about you, but some of those times are hard even in dry fire until I am warmed up.

Absolutely. Many of them I can get through the process in the par but i don't have the control and/or vision necessary (nor consistency) when completing the task. I've been listening to the PSTG podcast and picking up some nuggets to work on though.

So I copied backtrail tonight. After dry firing the drills using the par times given a couple of times this week, I decided to run them live. Results were,,,,mixed.

    Doubles par 1.2, me 1.12, 1.2, 1.05, 1.15, 1.09
    Bill Drills par 2.0 me 2.02, 2.12, 2.04, 2.05, 2.13
    Singles (one each three targets) par 1.4 me 1.65, 1.53, 1.68, 1.56 (clean), 1.64
    Blake Drill par 2.0 me 2.21, 2.19, 2.24, 2.15, 2.26.
    4 Aces par 2.5 me 3.32, 3.08, 2.93, 2.91, 2.96
    SHO par 3 me 3.35, 3.46
WHO par 4 me 4.12, 3.98 (no misses but wild)
El Prez par 4.8 me 5.29

As you can see some drills were closer than par to others. None were shot clean except as noted. The good news is there were no misses. So where was the disconnect between dry and live? Well mostly 2 areas. Tension was a huge issue and it slowed me down. The other thing was the visual component after factoring recoil in.

I forgot to take new targets so some of these holes aren't new, and the tape not the pasters were from today.
    PXL_20230908_214631402.MP.jpg

After that speed work, I reeled it in and ran an IDPA 5X5 trying to shoot it reactively. I dropped one close one for a total of 18.63. (Master is 18.47)

I think the skill gap from where i am and the S&D pars is equivalent to the skill gap of my shooting partners and me.

It opened their eyes when they saw me reaching over my head and falling short, similar to when they try to keep pace with me. I've told them I'm not in the really deep end of the pool but seeing it vs my expectation was eye opening for them. Good stuff MVS!

So we did a drill in the match today. They ran the 5X5 classifier as one of the stages. I managed to win the stage but come up 3/4 of a second short of Master class. It was a tough morning as on the first stage my gun had a number of problems and turned a 20 second stage into a 40 second one. I then switched to my backup. I have to nurse these damn Sigs through the rest of this season and then decide what to do.

Started the session out by sighting in the EPS Carry on the Canik MC9. It was pretty much on at 10 and I had to take a few clicks to the right at 25. I then ran the double Add 1 with it. I forgot my 3X5's so I ran it on B8s. The first run I threw a round slightly off the target. The second run I did my part and scored a 92. I am happy with that for this little gun. If I decide to carry this I will re zero with carry ammo.

Switching to my match Sig I ran the same drill to start and ended up with a 96 and a 99. From there I went to the 20 Alpha at 7, 10, and 15 and then finished up with the 5 shot mini stage drill run a number of different ways.

Though I felt a bit out of it, there were no problems and everything went ok. Match tomorrow and prepping for the IN state match first weekend of October.

    10 left hand only

10 aiming at right target, "moving" to left
10 aiming at left "moving" right

I let my dry fire practice slip and it shows. It took me too long to warm up and I'm not happy with any of my groups. It was my first time at Sugar Ridge FWA and it was a nice facility for stand and shoot.

So another match with a drill. It worked out pretty interestingly. They called the stage Bill Drill X3. In essence you had 3 strings of fire. 1) 7 yard line draw and fire 5 shots freestyle. 2) 10 yard line draw and fire 5 shots freestyle. 3) 15 yard line draw and fire 5 shots freestyle. The catch was there was a non threat on either side of the target only allowing the width of the body down zero to be exposed at the widest point. This should have been an easy drill for me because I shoot this type of thing all of the time. (minus the non threats). However with the addition of the non threats it really added a layer of mental stress, at least for me. I should have ran this stage in about 9 seconds, give or take, but instead went 10.79 -1. I didn't slow down on purpose, but my sub conscious must have done it for me.

So I was able to get the individual string times and it is even more apparent there that at least on the first two strings I was a good 1/2 to 3/4 of a second slower than I should have been.

Started with 2 runs of Double Add 1 on a 3X5. Both were 8/10. The 2 misses were very close to the card, but they were misses .

Sometime during the week I saw a reference to the Blowers Hateful 8 drill and I couldn't remember if I have run it before or not. It seems like 8 seconds is plenty of time, but when you are doing a draw and 2 reloads and trying to keep some decent accuracy, it is not as much time as you might think. Out of 6 runs I had 4 under eight with a best point total of 78.

I finished up with the USPSA classifier Lightning and Thunder which is a 3 string par time affair. The 5 second par time really gives it a sense of urgency. Specifically on the second string for me.
    1) 25 yards freestyle 2 rounds each on 3 targets.
    2) 15 yards is 1-1-1 reload 1-1-1
    3) 10 yards SHO 2-2-2.

I haven't updated but i have been shooting. I've been setting up a comp belt and enjoying running that. It is a compromise at the moment but works well enough. A few weeks ago we set up some classifiers and ran several. Based on the last HHF's that I could find without being a uspsa member, i was in the high B/low A class range generally. Then last week we worked an array and also some Stoeger/Kim drills, Barhop being the main focus. I ran it fast and i ran it accurate but generally not both concurrent to each other ;) One the 50 point array (two targets and a 8" steel) we worked on running it from every combination to both see which way got the best hf's and also whether A's were worth it over close C's etc....(on headbox only runs, it was absolutely worth the time to go for the upper A vs just the head at 7 yards).

My belt is becoming a touch more optimal as i go. Eventually it won't even look like a performance carry bro set it up. Both range partners bailed for tomorrow so it will be a solo affair. If i muster up the effort to go alone, i will probably run some stuff from the standard practice and random arrays.

Took the Canik MC9 out for a short session tonight. I plan on shooting it in a carry gun match this weekend.

Started with the Double Add 1. First run was a 7/10 on the 3X5 but followed that up with a 9/10. Not bad.

Went to the Rangemaster SCAT test after that and ended up with a 132 score. While this was less than with a full size gun, it is still Advanced according to Tom and I think is good enough for the intended purpose of the gun. Of course the usual disclaimer that I would like to do better. SCAT

I finished up with the Rangemaster Bullseye course. Yes, this little microcompact is probably at a disadvantage here and my scores at the 25 yard line were not great, but I think that was mostly me and not the gun. Over all I ended up with a 274/300 and from 15 and in within the given pars I did about as well as with a big gun/optic. Rangemaster Bullseye

Once the match season ends, probably for me with the Indiana State match Oct 7, I will use these drills to put the Canik up against my 365XL and probably a full size gun as a control.

I posted this as it’s own thread but I got to watch the record broke in the Casino drill. Sean Martin from Onsight training out of Connecticut ran it clean in 9.04. Guy had phenomenal skill!

I saw that on another site. That is pretty awesome shooting. A 11.24 is not too shabby either.
