Added 20lb of canned beef to the long term storage. The containers are now full (2 x 60 gal drums and a few 100lb+ additional storage) and I'll need to buy more if I want to store more food.. Did work in the gardens adding an elevated box for growing asparagus and chicken wire to keep out the bunnies, didn't buy enough so tonight shot some bunnies.

    A holler in Kentucky
I have a few hundred dollars in Amazon cards that I get from work, so I've been buying stuff on there that goes along with my backpacking/hiking hobby, which also helps me sharpen survival skills. This past week, I put some hard trail miles on my Buck sling pack, really starting to like this thing after humping it 80 or so trail miles in the last couple months. It took some getting used to, and some breaking in, but the shoulder strap is very comfortable, and the pack itself is large enough to carry 3 16 oz water bottles, a Sawyer mini, some cliff bars, rain gear, knife, several firestarting methods, including a trusty bic, FAC, few spare loaded mags, and extra socks. I carried the minimum amount of stuff I knew I could get by with while hiking in the Smokies, and experienced no discomfort from the pack, so I think it's a keeper.

Earlier today I boiled some water with my new esbit pocket stove, and made some soup can instant coffee. For my needs, I won't be messing with my alcohol stove anymore, the esbit fuel tabs did fine in the windy conditions of my back yard. I also used my new Zippo firestarter to build a small fire, just to see if it was something I may want to add to my pack. It's the one that comes with the cotton tinder sticks, and although it takes a lot more fiddling with than just lighting up with a Bic, it's supposedly water proof, and it DID actually light the tinder stick after just a few sparks, so I guess I'll throw it in my pack, too.

Lots of cardio and push-ups this week.

Edit to add: Just took the zippo fire starter out and held it under water in the pool for about 30 seconds, opened it, got a piece of the tinder out, spread it out per the instructions, and lit it in about three spins of the flint wheel, so the thing is pretty decent in the water proof claim.

Bought some extra mantles for the aladdin lamps. Should be good for two years worth. Figured out how to feed skeeters out of the skeetervac to my chickens, add diatomaceous earth.....

Also picked up a couple of spare magazines for the .303 Enfield. It may be a ways down the list of what I'm going to grab but at least it is now more relevant.

Bought 5000 rounds of 22LR. 1000 rounds of 7.62x39 and 1 more month of food to store. I am currently looking into better water storage and collection methods.

I was rotating the flats of water in storage for use and found a bit of water on the floor under 2 of the stacks.
I rotate the stores into the use cycle to keep it fresh as possible.
I think the lesser brands with the flimsy bottles are not well suited for this.

Currently I am looking into storage tanks that will supplement my portable water. A large storage tank that I would be able to purge and refill on a regular basis.

We do not have the room for tanks. The flats of water are in every nook and cranny. We have about 40 1 gallon jugs in milk crates for cooking/cleaning in the pantry. I am seeing signs that they are not good for much past a year.

I understand. When I moved here I had to get rid of a lot of the drums that we had for water because of space in the truck. The thicker jugs that normally have apple juice or or other juices normally hold up much longer then the water/milk 1 gallon jugs.

    Let's see.
    1. Kept the pool chlorinated. 23000 gallons of drinking water! LOL
    2. Moved a set of steel shelves into the backroom so Mama could take the results of the last Red Gold raid off of the beef freezer.
    3. Finally started hacking through my Brazilian jungle of a garden. That counts, right?
    4. Tested a rummage sale generator I'd picked up. Turns out you CAN aerate a pond with a sump pump and a 3k genny.
    5. Ordered propane. 1.09 a gal. right now.

This morning I started at a cross fit gym. Seems like every prepper without a big gut recommends crossfit so I figured I should get my butt in there. It was fun, I wanted to throw up, my legs were and still are burning, and my lungs were lit up. It was a bunch of stuff that I'd normally have never done and I'm glad I did it.

Been trying to get myself tuned up on precision shooting. It's a perishable skill and for the last year or so my focus has been more run and gun. I've got a couple steel plate in the backyard and I'm trying to make a mini young's longshot. Ideally plates every 25 yard, but for now 150yard, 175, and 300. Using holds on a mildot reticle I plink on all three supressed after the kids go to bed. Absolutely loving it.

Last night I witnessed a groundhog go to heaven. I was watching him through my scope at 250 yards and his head exploded. Must have been a migraine or something similar. Now I suppose he'll just be bait for coyotes.

Had a friend recommend an article on zero hedge. 11 Red Flags As We Enter The Pivotal Month Of August 2015 | Zero Hedge I'm going to add them to my list of daily reading. It's a doom and gloom article, but it was based on current events and what could be current events. Time will tell if it's right or not, but it got me motivated to get some canned food.
