In the early 80s, a 4" S&W M19 in an Allessi square inside the waistband holster, or if I thought I might need more a 6.5" Magnaported S&W M29 in a Jackass "Dirty Harry" shoulder holster. A S&W 469 was for more hidden carry. For long guns an HK91 and an HK512 shotgun. Later a Browning DBA 45, an S&W M38, an AR15, and a Winchester M12 were my normal choice. This all changed again in the 90s.

Thankfully no. Germany x2. As best as I can remember that was our loadout my first trip in 81-84 when I was in G Trp 2/2ACR on the M60A3 TTS. My second trip I was HHT 2 ACR detached to Hof Border Ops Center. Technically still a tanker but only time I saw the inside of a turret was at a single gunnery.
And I just realized I listed the consumables in my post above not what made the consumable useful.
    Gun, 105mm, M68
Machine Gun, 50 cal, M85 (what a POS!)
Machine Gun, 7.62, M240 (Sweet piece of ordnance!)
    Submachine gun, 45 cal M3A1
    Pistol, semi-automatic, 45 cal, M1911A1
