near Bedford on a whole lot of land.
I think BigMatt has it. Anyone looking at those cartridges is likely to say "to hell with it, we might as well open it up." They will need an upper limit though like .458, because sure as grass is green somebody is going to have to go to the woods with a Barrett rifle and try to become Chris Kyle.

You make it sound like a bad thing.

On my 600 yard range I've had deer walk across while I was shooting the .50bmg and it was a lot of willpower to not shoot it.

Before the inevitable jokes about exploding deer: with ball ammunition a broadside chest shot should be a pretty clean kill with a minimum of meat wasted.

Well I have plenty of rifles that will work but my .243 remington bolt gun will come out. If I buy a new gun it will be either a sig716 or a lwrc repr but I will stick with my 788 most likely. It would be a good excuse for a repr or 716 purchase though.

No need to buy a rifle. Already have a 300WM, .308, & 300Weatherby. Have only hunted with the .308 & 300WM. Also have a 325WSM. Would love to take a deer with that gun. My luck, I will get my buck and 2 doe during bow season and have less interest thus resulting in less time spent out during gun season

For deer a .270 would be plenty. Heck that caliber has taken down a lot of elk. I have a 7mm-08 I would probably use, but doubtful I ever use it. I tend to like my bow and ML.

Just pulled a Win Model 70 30-06 out of the safe, guessing it has been setting there for at least 12 years without being touched. Found a couple of boxes of Sierra 150gr BT SP GameKings, and 100 Lake City match cases. I guess the 30-30 barrel for the Contender can wait, I will work up some loads this summer with IMR4350.

I have a Remington 700 .30-06 and a H&R .308 Single shot that I will use. Both shoot great, but the H&R is by far the handiest rifle.
I would love a Remington Model 7 in .308 with a laminated stock and a Bushnell Elite scope. Best of both worlds. Short and handy, but still able to reach out there with a couple shots in reserve.

Like many hunters I have a supply of each of the five calibers that became legal so I will not be buying. But I may sell a few since there should be a demand for quality used rifles. Sad they did not include .270 win., 7mm-08 & 7mm Rem. Mag. since they are my favorite guns. I am also, looking forward to using my Glock 20 with 6" KKM barrel for some short range hunting and tree stand hunting. It's accurate and 10mm lead and HP bullets do a fine job on tough to kill feral hogs in thick brush of Florida.

Finished my .308 up the same day that the Governor signed the bill into law.

Any word on the Mystery 300? the restrictions list, I am assuming it's the 300win mag only. But I have a Remington 700 Classic in 300H&H the would qualify if the law just says 300 magnum. I could just see me arguing with a CO about the fact that the 300win mag is a 300H&H that someone just modified into a 300H&H Ackley Improved!

Cartridge is listed clearly as Sec. 8(b)(3)(C) .300. is the way the law lists. No CO is going to read that as Mag. or Win Mag. or Weatherby Mag. or WSM etc. this whole law is designed to be a TEST of the use of centerfire rifles in the Hills and Dales of the great State of Indiana. More importantly, no Judge in the State of Indiana will read that as a violation. You have no worries. They just decided to limit the cartridges in an odd way to get the ball rolling.
Don't sweat the details as there is no worry. good hunting and great fun

Well it looks like I'm going to build my last Mauser action for a .243, I have two others in .270 and 30-06 but I'm not a big fan of recoil. I got a bunch of 6mm bullets and .243 brass at an auction awhile back so it looks like that's going to be my choice.
