    Social Security INSURANCE

Social Security was started and is supposed to be insurance not an entitlement, but over the years it has turned into an entitlement. If you do not need it you don't use it, just like car insurance, house insurance, medical insurance etc. That is the way it is supposed to work , but when we are paying Warren Buffett, who obviously does not need it, then it has become an entitlement. I believe we should have an income limit where those who truly need the "INSURANCE" receive it and those who don't do not.

Im 28 I dont think My generation can be to blame for what has happened in the past, but I will blame my generation for what we have RIGHT NOW. We are big kids it's time we take the blame as well. Quite honestly lets not play the pointing finger game like Barry O is doing, and start working as one to get this mess cleaned up. Once we can quit pointing fingers and just work we can accomplish anything. So as Larry the Cable Guy says lets get er done! Lets make November this year and 2012 the game changer back to Liberty and Prosperity!!!

    Uhhh.....
The Roosevelt Administration enacted Social Security for one reason.
To generate cash for Roosevelt's Socialist entitlement programs.
The Actuary Tables at the time showed that the average man would be dead before he could retire on SS and draw benefits.
Roosevelt was gambling, (Something that he enjoyed immensely), that the Government would obtain huge amounts of cash from those who died before retirement age.
The idiot, and his equally stupid advisor's, were not foresighted enough to see that medical advances would extend the average life span by over two decades in the years to come.
Hence, the SS system will be broke shortly because of the @#$*& Democrats and their "SPEND, SPEND, SPEND, and don't worry about who's paying for it," mentality.

    Rant off!!

Both of you are missing the target. This is not about I7BO or how he got elected. It's more about the "culture" that got us to this "me entitlement" and lack of personal responsibility that is the root cause of it all. That is the issue I want to focus on. Which generation taught us this "entitlement" bs.
Not all in those generations are accountable for this. I was never taught entitlement buy my parents and not buy 1 school out of the many that I attended.

This is just merely my opionion,I believe that the problems we are facing now are not from Baby Boomers or the greatest Generation, but based off of pure greed. to keep it simple the Greatest generation fought a war to end all wars and came home to give new families more than what they had,and in responce when these children, the baby Boomers went to work and could support a family on 1 income, things were good. then the problem arises that we want more, the beginning of family breakdown. mom goes to work, noone is raising littleboys/girls and these children(my Generation) are paid off with the extra income. Then the big mess starts, wages decrease thus 2 incomes to support families and the price of goods doubles,i.e. cars, tvs groceries and gas. And then credit cards. My Generation has used a abused credit to the point that the Government bailed out the greedy bankers. The mess we are in envolves alot of people, but government at all levels is the wrecking ball.

    They're the ones who've introducted Gen X, [STRIKE]Y & Z[/STRIKE] to the glories of Big Government. .

    Didn't take with me.

What I find funny is the complaining BO as if McCain/ Palin was better.
I look at it like this, if McCain died, than Palin is top dog.
    .

In all the thoughts I've had about Palin (and I blush to think of how many) she's never been top. Dog, or otherwise.

A majority of the problems or roots to entitlement programs can be traced to the Johnson Administration. Johnson was elected as president in 1964 as a sympathy vote due to Kennedy's death. Johnson enacted his Great Society series of legislation bills and programs - War on Poverty, Medicare/Medicaid which was a part of changes to Social Security. Some of them include Security Act of 1965 (revisions to the act), Civil Rights Legislation, Voting Rights Act, establishment of the Office of Economic Opportunity, Community Action, Job Corps, Food Stamp Program, Head Start, Federal Funding to Education. Johnson sent 87 pieces of Great Society legislation to congress and ending up signing and enacting 84 bills or laws.

Johnson also got the ball rolling on environmental legislation. This legislation included:

Clear Air, Water Quality and Clean Water Restoration Acts and Amendments
Alas, Johnson ran into problems trying to keep expanding the Great Society and getting involved in Vietnam. Vietnam trumped his Great Society legislation and cost him a second term.

No it isn't and no it wasn't, never was.

The way guests on Market Watch say things SHOULD BE don't automaticly become historical fact.

    I sure didn't want that.
He had a chance for my vote and then he pick Palin as Vice and he lost it after a couple of speeches from her.

Which doesn't surprise me a bit. McCain was far to liberal, and I was not going to vote for him until he picked Palin. The fact that he appealed to liberals so strongly was, and is, a symptom of what is wrong with the Republican Party. They turned their backs on conservatives, hoping to get votes from liberals who, in the end, would never have voted for them. In the process, they've utterly alienated untold numbers of conservatives, and many of us will absolutely NOT vote for another RINO again merely because the Democrat is slightly worse, and slightly more left. The Republicans can go pound sand until/unless they return to their roots. If they do not, I'll write my dog in.

We are ALL to blame because we are doing nothing to change the direction our country is headed.

It may have started way back whenever, but we have the power to change things and yet we do nothing.

    Don't bite hard....

We stand up and shout our discontent.

We keep shouting till we are heard.

If we don't stand up for ourselves, then we will continually be trampled on.

I think at this point the number of people on entitlment outweight the number of people not on it (who would be doing the shouting) and thus this may not work. Voting the Ds out of office in 2012 won't work either as the Rs are just as bad (all are greedy power hungry both Ds and Rs).

jediagh, I wrote a paper on a similar topic a few weeks ago for an English comp class. I used the book "Generation Me" by Dr. Twenge. Dr. Twenge calls Generation Me any one born from 1970 - 1990. Basically any one who was born to a baby boomer. In it she basically blames baby boomers for telling their kids that they're special and unique to the point that most kids become narcissists. I disagreed a lot with the book because she used a lot of generalities and blanket statements. Some of it obviously was correct for some of that generation. Check out the book if you're interested. I personally hated it, but to each his own.

I tend to blame the generation of Abe Lincoln. Lincoln started the assault on the U.S. Constitution that has continued to this day. Our original form of government died in 1865. The concept of limited federal government, the equality of the states to the federal government and states' rights all ended when the various Confederate forces surrendered between April and June of 1865.

Just look at our country before the War and after the War. It has been said that before the War, the only contact most people had with the federal government was by going to the post office. Look at how much contact we have with the federal government today. This reminds me of the old analogy of how to cook a frog. They have been slowly turning up the heat for 145 years.

Well, it didn't take with my son or daughter-in-law, either, but you folks seem to be the exception, rather than the rule. To be fair, I was a teenager the first time I heard the phrase: "I didn't ask to be born; my parents owe me a living!" Shocked me speechless! He meant it!

    Who is John Galt?

I think we can blame every generation except about the first 5, Adam and his closest descendants. There has always been a moocher class. It just depends on the generations and how much power we extend to that moocher class.
