    I've always wondered why his clothing doesn't get damaged. If you wrapped a steel blast door in spandex and shot at it, it wouldn't do anything to the door underneath, but it would still put a hole in the spandex, right?

    His suit was made from Kryptonian cloth, IIRC

    I am going to speculate that it is for the same reason that in most westerns they could shoot more rounds out of a sixgun without reloading than you can fire through an AK with a drum without reloading.
