    Prayers for all involved.

Patience. You will get it back, but give the officials (police and coroner) time to finish and file their paperwork.

No, they said I would not get back. The officers on the scene were wrong. I love the police, want to trust the police, but I feel we are being jerked around. Its been 10 days.

It would probably be a good idea to reach out directly to the chief of police/elected sheriff/mayor or someone in authority about the matter.

    And, maybe, an attorney.

I know a department that has a policy in place where they keep the gun used in any death for 1 year.

    How do they justify it?
Policy should not trump the law. Although it seems the bureaucrats are running the country nowadays.

My son got pulled over DUI several years ago. He had one of my 1911's on him. Legally. Him, my truck and my gun went to jail.
I had the truck out in less than an hour. Left his ass in jail and the gun took near 2 months to get back. I got the gun and 1 mag. It went in with 2 fully loaded mags. Butt heads took my ammo.

That's cause they know no one is going to fight them for it.
If everyone they did that to sued them....

Washington DC has been known to return firearms rusted solid, after ignoring repeated court orders.

    Terrible loss, so sorry.

I would consider getting an attorney to write a letter to the department requesting the timeframe to receive your property back. Maybe one of the INGO professionals will chime in on this idea? :ingo:

Hopefully the item is not contaminated.
If so, maybe somebody at the PD will take it apart and clean it up.
    Needs to be done quickly.
Lot of suicides locally, one officer does such a service.
Most folks want the item returned.
