Not a bad idea, except for the extremities (feet, hands, head). Not sure about the weight either.

Hard enough for me to move around carrying a bunch of ammo and back-ups.

When heading out into the wild in search of uninfected, food, water, ammo and other supplies it might not be a bad idea. I would hope to have the buddy system in place so someone could snipe them before they actually got to me, thus using the mail as a last resort.
