So can the 24 hours of charge for 1 hour of drive. Of course, living somewhere other than a sunny state can mean even longer

More likely, cars converted to run wood or coal.

It might depend on a bunch of stuff such as the hight and the type of weapon used, wave lenght and whatnot.

Most things simply have not been tested (at least not with published results) so we just don't know how they will surive.

Sylvain, I hope you and Kut are right and the Wiki people know what they are talking about. And I really hope we dont see it put to a test.

Damage to electronics and electrical devices by the E1 and E2 pulses are all related to proximity and the strength of the pulses. If you're far enough in the proper direction (related to the E1 pulse) your stuff survives. If not, it doesn't. It's the E3 taking out power grid and damaging the mondo transformers that take years to replace that will trigger the societal apocalypse. Your car may operate but you won't be able to refuel it and even if you could, you wouldn't be able to pay for it.

We are so dependent on a working power grid that taking it down across a significant part of the U.S., especially on the east coast and nearly as bad on west coast, collapses societal infrastructure. No fuel? No transportation logistics. No transportation logistics? No food. Water purification plants go down. Communications networks go down. Banking systems go down. Debit cards and credit cards become worthless. Don't need to take the whole show down, just a large percentage, and it doesn't even need to be half. Because of the widespread interdependencies of national and global systems, the domino effect will bring just about everything to a halt. Think of it like a car that suddenly has no tires or wheels and a plane that suddenly has no engine, or a train where all the rails disappear. Doesn't matter if the rest of those work, you're still not going anywhere. The other analogy is playing Jenga (the tower of wood blocks). Take enough blocks out and it completely topples. The reverse of critical mass.

Make friends with the nearest Amish. Their horses will be unaffected. That said, even they are dependent on civil and societal infrastructure, but it's not as direct or as immediate an effect.

People in the western part of the country...the part you fly over for hours without seeing a tree...when the water pumps stop working because the electricity is gone, they are going to be gone in just a few days; and they will be some very unhappy days. No access to water will be a significant problem.

Past time to take crazy little fat boy out.

A spokesman for the DPRK said that suggestions that we pull our families out of SK are indicators that we are planning pre-emptive strikes against NK and that our exercise there now are proof. NK policy, and the way they, Russia, China and many in the commie (our) press frame any mutual defense activity is as a provocation. This is because for NK to 'peacefully' reunite Korea they need to ensure that we won't step in and help SK when they are given the chance to surrender or die. Their leadership would rather face national suicide than lose face.

For it's part, China has announced that it is conducting joint exercises in preparation for operations in Korea to safeguard their 'strategic interests'. The South China Morning Post quoted a 'Chinese Military Expert' Li Jie (Senior Captain Li Jie has only commented when leadership wanted a message sent outside diplomatic channels) said 'the timing of this high-profile announcement by the PLA also is a warning to Washington and Seoul not to provoke Pyongyang any further'.

War with NK will (once again) be war with China. We should immediately acknowledge it as such; as I have said before. This time no pulled punches. We should immediately announce that any nuke fired from NK at us or any of our allies will be considered as a nuke launched from China...and perhaps even Russia...their enablers. An EMP over America would not disable our military, we should ensure their outcomes are worse. Choose accordingly commie b***tards.
