My post count and possible credibility goes down because I like to buy and trade guns on a gun forum. I really didn't know that people like me were frowned apon. Just remember, if nobody sold guns nobody would have guns. Sorry if I stepped on any toes.

Aw man I lost 1 post, do you know how long it'll take me to make it up?

As the moderator of the Classifieds section from..... Well since INGO has had moderators, I lost ~ 400 posts :)
I'm all for having another couple hundred knocked off in the welcome forum....

:) But then post count really doesn't matter. Half the forums I am on, don't display it publicly.

Your credibility in buying and trading comes from the quality of your transactions, not your post count. You didn't step on toes. The owner of the site gets to set things up the way he sees fit. He didn't stop the classifieds; he just changed the rules. It's his site and his rules. That's the way things work in the USA. If you are offended, you could start your own site and have your own rules.

Post whoring for the sole purpose of having a higher post count is like having a list of all your guns in your signature line.
Are you under the impression that my signature has all my guns in it? Those are just the ones that were lost at sea.

OK being New I have a relevant question ( I think)

What's the difference what the post count is?

Is it a measure for something?

Does it mean you get something special?

I think it is amusing, but don't see the practice use of them.

    Am I missing something?

I see no reason why anyone cares what their post count is.

And I really so no reason why anyone cares what does or does not count as "posts" - I mean seriously? :dunno:

I actually do put stock into higher post counts. Frankly I am less anxious about meeting for a FTF with someone that has 1000 posts than 16. For me the first is "more of the family" and is a more known quantity. Furthermore, I can visit a sampling of his/her posts to see what kind of person they seem to be (imperfect but better than nothing).

Now, if there was a dual system: # of posts and # of successful sales then maybe the post count would count less. But as for now, I use what I have in front of me kinda like a reference system.
