Seriously, the border again? What posts of mine are you referring to? That's like a half-dozen times you've brought that up in the last 24 hours.

I'll go on record saying that I'm against the neo-Berlin wall, but I have never said anything about zero border regulation.

I'm under the impression you are an advocate of unrestricted migration of people across international borders. If I'm wrong about your views on that, then I sincerely apologize for the assumption and here's your chance to correct me. Do you believe people should be able to move freely across international borders with no "papers" or restrictions.

You lie. I said that I think it is ludicrous to wait around for the welfare state to disappear before doing other necessary reforms, like ending prohibition. I said they should both be ended at the soonest possible opportunity, in any order, without delay. Go ahead, find it and quote it.

Lie? Hardly. You said something similar to that if it wasn't a direct quote. I realize you pay lip service to dismantling the welfare state. I haven't seen thread after thread about welfare state abuses from you so I can only assume it's pretty low on your priority list.

    Wow, never said that either.

Really? So then you support banning abortions?

You can browse my threads for 30 seconds and see all manner of subjects. Spying, gun control, foreign wars, residential raids, brutality, executive orders, government schooling, checkpoints, terrorism, I mean come on man.

I'll cut you some slack on the war on terror posts. I do see those occasionally. The rest of the subjects are always just different iterations about the "war on drugs".

As long as you ignore the millions of people being jailed, the billions of dollars spent, and the police state built on top of it.

Then you could trivialize it to that level.

Again, feel free to cite the before and after Colorado law enforcement budgets to see if legalization actually eliminates any of this.

That aside, if your real concern is about "billions wasted" and government oppression, then I can't wait to see 300 posts per day about the abuses of Obamacare in the next few years. I won't hold my breath though.

I'm going to defer having a half-dozen debates on various social issues for other threads. I'm not dodging, I just don't see how or why all these subjects are relevant to this thread. I should have not taken the bait last go around. [/threadjack]

Meanwhile, I found more info on the driver.

DHS at Internal Checkpoint breaks drivers' window, seizes all his stuff and doesn't charge him with anything

    Q. What happened after?
    A. "I was hoping the window would be broken open. I bought a spare ahead of time. Afterward everything I had was confiscated other than ID and Credit Cards. They held my Computers, Cameras, Phone for 21 days with no sight of when I'd get it back. I was handcuffed for 6 hours of my 9 hours in Detention. I wasn't offered a toilet for most of that time. I was set on the streets of El Cajon at 10:30pm on foot 200 miles from home and 100 miles from my destination. I was denied covering events. --Rob

    Q. Have you filed suit yet?
    A. No. The ACLU is looking at the videos. Are you familiar with things like this? What type of scenario could I expect in a Civil Suit? What things can we all gain? --Rob

    Q. Did they really have to bust the window or were they just being bell ends?
    A. I wasn't going to open the window or door. I wasn't Consenting to a Search which they make very clear is being done with the hand held, belt mounted and shoulder mounted Sniffing devices they wave around and in Vehicles. I have no idea what there Cause or Suspicion was for breaking the window open. --Rob

    Q. what country is that? ah, land of the free, i understand...
    A. Land of the Free of all Your Material Goods, and Free to Keep Your Hands Behind Your Back in Cuffs for 6 Hours, Free of Toilets for 9 Hours, and Free of Your Vehicle for the Ping Pong Weekend and Free of Cameras to Film the Senior Table Tennis Event. --Rob

    Q. What did you do for them to act like that?
    A. I didn't Consent to a Search and Remained Silent (well except for the "Hmm?" to understand his Order.) --Rob

    Q. Damm so are you going after them for damages and property damage?
    A. They gave me a SF-95 form to file for Damages. --Rob

    Q. So did they charge you with anything?
    A. I don't think so. They held my stuff for 21 days. The Property guy said he was waiting for them to file some Charges and to try to get a Search Warrant to look at my Videos (They had my Laptop, Phone and iPod also till today.)

Check points are used in every state I have lived to check insurance, DUI, felons on the run, and kidnap alerts, and I am sure for a bunch of other possible violations.

In CA there are major checkpoints on I-5 and I-15 about 50 miles in from the border. They have been there for at least 40 years. Most of the time cars are simply waved thru, and often the checkpoint is/was unoccupied completely.

However there have been times when the place apprehended vans full of illegals, and others loaded with drugs. I do recall one stop that had a small Toyota pickup with a cap on the back that had 21 illegals crammed into it...They tried to run when they were stopped but were so cramped in the truck they could not get free of the 'furball' and were arrested without a chase.

I think this guy set up his cameras to get his 15 minutes of attention from folks who don't understand how it feels to have illegals (NOT undocumented workers) occupying an underground society within your community. Apparently from what I read here it works.

I would not mind showing proof of citizenship at a vechile check point anymore than answering a question and showing Proof of Insurance at one of those checkpoints...IF it help stop the invasion of this country by the 'ILLEGALS"

Ah, the ends-justify-the-means argument. We've caught people doing bad stuff, so it's a good infringement. I think the NSA has a job for you.

I won't argue with your point of view. But I will say after living in a SoCal desert community for 25 years +, there is a very different attitude about allowing the Illegals to exist in their own culture that has no respect at all for the rights and behaviors you are defending so strongly.

When my wife's brother was killed on his motorcycle in a collison with a truck- stolen-no reg. or insurance--driven by what we suppose was an Illegal, who ran from the scene leaving a woman (his wife and children) in the truck denying that they knew the driver...The police could not even get a name for the reports. Their comment was the 'perp' fled and they have no way to trace his identity.

Or how about a student in one of my classes at the college (on fin. aid) who was expelled for multple weapons violations on campus. He came back the following year and registered...and got his fin aid, under a different name. When he showed up in my class, I questioned him as to how he got readmitted...He claimed he was NOT the person I said he was...that guy was his cousin. But he laughed about it and said he would do a 'records change after one term, so he could avoid retaking all the classes he had already completed. AND Illegals are not charged out of state fees and tuition...residents of nearby Nevada and Arizona are charged thos fees... go figure.

I have all the respect in the world for the AZ folks who support any effort to stop the invasion. If check points work, then use them. Why do you want to support the continued Illegal destruction of the country we live in by those people who want nothing more than for us to provide a free ride for their life.

I suppose if you're just trying to prove a point go for it. Or one might say stand for your rights. but I got to be honest it seems kind of a douche move to not roll the window down just a crack to talk to them and tell them you're not consenting to a search. With your window rolled up and no communications.......
Not saying that justifies their actions, but still.....

the "other" side of the story

Did you see the 15-minute clip I posted? Things happened like he said. He left his window up and ignored them. No real secrets here.

This guy records everything. He has over 4,000 videos on his account. He obviously drives around through the Southwest a lot. He has dozens of checkpoint videos. In some of the others he puts on a smile and produces his papers. I think he finally just had enough of the roadside harassment. Every man has a breaking point.

Here's some of his other encounters. He dedicated a website to his own personal checkpoint experiences. Honestly it disgusts me that this is standard practice.

I wish that people could grasp the idea that no one in big government is truly interested in stopping illegals from entering this country. These checkpoints are no doubt just an effort of the Feds to appear to be doing something while conditioning us to accept intrusive eyes and hands into our freedom.

Really? So the border patrol has made changes to their policies and now respect my rights as a result of this incident? Again, was anything accomplished besides the guy getting thrown in jail and his property damaged?
Jim Crowe wasn't repealed the day after Rosas Parks was arrested. But it's safe to say that her act set it in motion, or at least contributed to getting the ball rolling/keeping it rolling. Sometimes the consequences aren't immediate.

The rest of your post, I generally agree with, so I'll just address this section.

First of all, this is correct. People don't have a clue about their "rights".

There's where we differ though. You've narrowed that down to the right to cross international borders at will and the right to shoot heroine on the street corner.

You're not really educating people about the erosion of their rights. You have a singular agenda to advocate drug legalization and use the "erosion of rights" argument only so far as it intersects with your legalization agenda.

Government imposed gay marriage? You're on board.

Dismantling the welfare state? You don't have time for that since "we will never get rid of it anyway".

Right to life? You don't believe in it.

So, pardon me if I don't buy your "concern" for the erosion of rights when you're silent on everything that doesn't involve "possessing plants".

In the grand scheme of things, the right to "possess a plant" ranks somewhere below being able to buy a 100w incandescent bulb. So, pardon me again if I don't have the same level of concern as you do, that my neighbor can "possess a plant", when far more important rights are being violated.
Ack. The stupid just hit painful level.

The Rosa Parks incident was a planned, staged event, designed to manipulate public opinion exactly as it played out. Much the same as the Scopes Trial. This guy is no Rosa Parks or John Scopes. He's just some dullard who thought it would be cute to ignore an LEO request that he thought was intrusive and paid for it with a busted window and a night in jail. As smart as you claim to be I would have thought you'd understand the difference rather than make the inane assertion that he's the new Rosa Parks.

Not everyone is as smart as you, as you like to point out in every thread you participate in.

Yes the government has no interest in even curtailing the flow of illegal aliens (not immigrants). In fact the government IMHO has encouraged the invasion. As to conditioning, isn't it all conditioning?

This guy had a car decked out with cameras that he uses to record such events, and has uploaded thousands of videos to the internet, and you don't see that as a "planned, staged event, designed to manipulate public opinion"??
