Brainard will brag about HIS accomplishments all ay long. He doesn't however tell you that those 'improvements' are on credit. Instead of a small town mayor he has the Washington attitude of the things we buy today are tomorrows problem.

The schedule of campaign events is shaping up:
Calendar - Rick Sharp for Mayor

March 25 - League of Women Voters candidate forum
April 1 - Indy Star debate
April 14 - Current in Carmel debate

I don't have any other specifics, but I'll post them when I find out.

I encourage anyone interested in Carmel politics to spend just a little time getting to know the candidates and providing feedback.

For purposes of INGO, here are my thoughts on the candidates' positions on firearms:
    Mayor
Jim Brainard - not sure; he came out against the gun range in Carmel (and IMO his administration slow-walked the permitting process)
Rick Sharp - gun owner and total supporter of 2A

    Clerk-Treasurer
Diana Cordray - not completely sure, but she tends to be conservative to near-libertarian
    Christine Pauley - no idea

    City Court Judge
Brian Poindexter - totally 2A supportive, but he's unopposed anyway

    At Large Councilor
Kevin Rider - gun owner and supporter of 2A (my only hesitation is that I'm not sure his landlord/partner - Pedcor - is 2A supportive)
Ron Carter - not sure, except he's an arrogant prick
    Ron Houck - no idea

    Councilor NW
Laura Campbell - no idea, but she's unopposed

    Councilor NE
Sue Finkam - generally 2A supportive, I think
John Acetturro - generally 2A supportive, don't know if he is a gun owner

    Councilor Center
Eric Seidensticker - supporter of 2A
Bruce Kimball - says he supports 2A, but was squarely in line with the mayor's opposition to gun range

    Councilor SE
Luci Snyder - totally supportive of 2A, and I believe she is a gun owner
Jeff Worrell - not sure, but I don't think he's a gun owner

    Councilor SW
Carol Schleif - not sure, but she's pretty conservative
    Keith Griffin - not sure

Thanks for the info. I KNOW I am voting AGAINST Brainard but was unsure of the rest of the ticket. And yes. I am a Single Issue voter.................Pro Second ALL THE WAY.

The Constitutional Patriots will be having a candidate meet-and-greet tomorrow night, St. Patrick's Day. :)

I've been to a couple of their meetings and they are good people who care about the future of our city, state, and country. I don't necessarily agree with everything they support, but that's ok. :)

I had an interesting conversation on this topic in a distant and unexpected venue.

This past weekend I traveled to Dallas, Texas where I was the guest of some members of the Libertarian Party of that state. It seems that they had taken note of some of my contributions on the POLICESTATEUSA website and wished to conduct an extensive interview with me for a documentary that they are producing about the present state of US law enforcement spiraling out of control.

One of the other contributors was a gentleman running for Texas Lieutenant Governor on the Libertarian ticket. We were conversing between taping sessions and I happened to mention some of my misadventures with Carmel PD.

"Did you say Carmel, INDIANA??" he inquired. I replied that it was indeed the locale to which I alluded.

He related that some years previously he had been involved in furthering the campaign of an individual who was running in the Carmel mayoral campaign in opposition to James I-never-saw-a-debt-I-didn't-like Brainard. He said only a short time elapsed before he and his companions noticed that they were being shadowed by a cadre of Carmel police officers who were clearly collecting intelligence on their activities and reporting back to...someone.

    Gee, what a surprise.

The use of city employees, especially police officers, in partisan political campaigns is universally recognized as a particularly egregious form of corruption.

At least everywhere else it is.

In my time there, I can honestly say that I was not aware of any activities like that happening.

After I left, though, the Steven Libman issue became public. My understanding is that, before a private investigator was hired, someone at CPD was approached to investigate the situation. They declined. Make of that what you will.

I can also say that this campaign is different. Rick Sharp is generally well-respected among the uniformed services, both fire and police. Specifically with regard to the police, my sense is that there is no consensus that the mayor's administration truly looks out for their best interest. I know several police who, at least personally, support Rick.

I call BS on that one. How in the world would he know they were CPD? I won't get into the reasonings, but the odds an officer would shadow anybody on the mayor's behalf, is incredibly hard to believe.

By any chance you live in Carmel? Maybe vote at Carmel Middle School on Guilford? Last time Brainard ran he had Carmel fireman IN UNIFORM standing AT THE DOOR passing out flyers to vote for him. I told the guy it was ILLEGAL to pass flyers out at the door of a polling station, I didn't mention city employes trying to influence the vote. He just laughed and said "CALL THE CHIEF."

Get your facts straight before calling anyone a liar.

Big difference between the CFD and CPD political involvement. The fire guys have always been more active. Some would say more organized, even.

For whatever reason, the CPD guys have been more detached, for the most part.

Just saw a tweet from Rick Sharp about a mayoral press conference in a parking lot. Didn't see any news crews.

I think there's an apathy about this election, more than usual. Hard to tell what that will mean a week from now.

Oh by the way. Those guys passing out the Brainard flyers dressed in fireman garb and, and driving a fire truck also sent a mailing out yesterday saying that "CARMEL FIRE DEPARTMENT SUPPORTS BRAINARD AND THE FOLLOWING." Isn't that like Teachers Union, UAW, and Service Workers supporting our 'dear leader' Obama?

Let me guess: Was that maybe those impostor fireman again?

The uniform thing is tricky. As I recall, the law relates to official uniforms. So, they can't wear their official uniform. BUT, all the FD/PD people I know have a bunch of t-shirts that have FD/PD stuff on them, but aren't actually part of the uniform.

Plus, they can vote in uniform. So, they can drive the fire truck to the polling place to vote.

The mailers are also different. They can be photographed in uniform endorsing candidates.

I strongly suspect (to the point of "knowing") that they know where the lines are and act within them.

Just heard that the bulk of the mayor's slate didn't go to the GOP candidate forum last night. The mayor is not expected to be at the GOP event tonight.

So... the sitting "republican" mayor is not going to the local GOP candidate forum before the primary. That's pure arrogance.
