Been out driving around the woods at night this weekend. Deer all over the place. Saw a couple of nice bucks. They're nocturnal here as usual but the scrapes and rubs are showing up. I've already filled my buck tag just out scouting for a buddy to come hunt next weekend. Rut is firing up.

We've got an 11 point shooter bedded with a doe 70 yards from us. Of course the NE wind predicted is blowing NW right at them so it's not looking promising at the moment.

Well shoot.... Just had one of my nicer bucks come right through my front yard dogging a doe. Why I didnt have my bow laying out is beyond me. I actually thought about keeping it by my porch. I live in the middle of the farm field so its not like its wooded, the deer had to have crossed a couple hundred yards of open field before coming through the yard. I know where they were headed, there is a grown up pasture across the road that is a nice bedding area. In a perfect world I would try to circle around and hunt his ass, but the neighbors dog chased them off toward the east. :xmad:

INGO cost me that 11 pointer this morning. I was staring at my phone and he slipped by me at 30yds. By the time I saw him it was too late for a shot.

If I'm left with a tag at the end of the season I've got no one to blame but myself. Lesson learned.

:wallbash: That SUCKS!!! You seem to have him patterned, maybe you'll get another shot. Is he the biggest one on your hit list?

Anti-snooker rule #1 - Just when you think the woods are quiet, they're not. My phone cost me a shot at a doe last fall. I leave my phone in the pickup just so I don't get tempted when it's hard to stay focused on the hunt.

No, he's probably tied for #3 but he's the most predictable. We're alternating between the area he is in and the area the #1 is in to avoid burning either location.

Buddy of mine at work got a nice buck this weekend....with his truck.

I told him this year instead of full camo, I might just dress up like a pick up truck, with lots of bright shiny chrome accents and bright lights, and make vroom vroom sounds in my tree stand. That seems to attract them better than anything else!

We climbed down after missing the opportunity this morning to take care of some errands. There. Were. Deer. Everywhere. Saw a 10 point run across the main drag in the center of town, saw two running through picked fields, had a nice shooter walking casually through the pasture next to our camper around 1pm. It is on around here in a big way, of course we saw nothing from the stand this evening. :):

Talked to the land owner tonight that owns the property next to ours. Told him we planned to hunt again this year and that if necessary we may have to track a deer onto his property. As in years past, it wasn't an issue, and he even said we could hunt his woods if we wanted to. I also gave him a description of our vehicles in case he saw increased activity on the property. We've had a problem with trespassers in the past, including a stolen stand last year and what we think was a poached buck from the area.

To my disappointment he said that a bow hunter had been down there and had taken a deer on his property this weekend (without permission) and apparently the coyotes were thick and were following him as he drug it out. He called another resident that lives very close asking for him to come and help watch for coyotes as he took the deer out.

Its really frustrating as I was down there Saturday doing my final scouting and didn't see any indication of another hunter down there, but didn't go onto the other property. I know the guy that allegedly got the deer. Need to follow up with the other neighbor that was called to confirm the story. Just really upset and not sure what to do about it. Not worth getting into a big pissing contest over a deer, or trying to push for any legal action over it, but still really ticks me off if the story is true.

Debating on heading down there over a lunch break this week to see if our stands and cameras are still there. If a guy willingly trespasses, its not unheard of for him to steal the trail cams and other stands to cover his tracks.

Kind advice: be very good to that neighboring landowner who is so accommodating. Not all of us have been left so un-jaded.

When I set up my blind last year on my property, there was a stand there. I took it down and laid it on the ground hoping the owner wouldn't retaliate against my property. I came back 2 weeks later to my blind with the windows kicked out and most of the insulation ripped out. The insulation that was left had pretty bad words inscribed on it.

Guys that will trespass/poach have no respect for anything. It doesn't have to be in order for them to cover their tracks - they will ruin stuff for no reason.

As a fellow land owner, I would say it's not about the "deer". It's about trespassing and using someone's property without permission.

.......while knowing damn well that it's wrong but doing it anyway.

Why are booby traps illegal again? :dunno:
