You know if Indianapolis is that afraid, exclude Marion County and leave the rest of the state alone...we got it.

Does anyone know if this bill affects current legal "pistol cartridges"?

It won't effect current legal cartridges; unless you hunt with an SBR. The original bill says it must have a 16" barrel.

Willie, your dead on with everything.

Who is going to make the first over under. 30-06 over and a 12 gauge under? Indiana Legal? lol

Or a remotely fired, camera-equipped .270 that is mounted 10 feet above your attached backpack. Monitor is on your iwatch app. You can walk anywhere you want then and take the shot.

It'll be called the Shooting Overhead Mounted Equipped Indiana Ballistic System. Abbreviated S.O.M.E Indiana B.S.

This is genius--and an unfortunate ridiculousness. You need to build this and call it the Indiana gun. First the 358 Hoosier, now obsolete, now the gun of the future, the Indiana gun a 12/30-.06 combo. Why can't politicians do anything that makes sense?

Pass the law as it should be and forget the nonsense amendments.

I think this may outsell the 12ga/30 .06 combo if you can build it cheap enough. The name is fitting.

Food for thought.. A member on my site posted this when someone brought up whether this new regulation would impact the present wildcats..

Actually, since the current legislation doesn't specify a difference between current legal rifles and proposed rifles, and it says no other restrictions on ammunition beyond full metal jacket, then it very well may be read (interpreted) as all rifles with a 16 inch barrel and .243 and larger are restricted to use in the southern half of the state and from 10' above the ground

    What say ye?

THIS is what we get when we have politicians making the game management rules...

Southern part of the state - Hwy 36 from Western Indiana to Marion county, then southern border of Marion, then highway 40 to the eastern side of state is the boundary line.

Yep, 10 foot up. More people are getting hurt and/or killed by falling out of treestands that by guns in this state...and any other state. The politicians say," We want you to be safe, so climb a tree.. and bust your kuester when you fall out.."

First, I'm not completely happy with that but it is a start.... one that should be easy to improve upon in a few years.
Second, the complaint about politicians making game management rules doesn't hold much water with me. Perhaps it was true at one time that DNR officials are all competent biologists making sound game management decisions based on scientific management principles but it should be clear by now that there is a lot of politics involved in every decision the DNR makes. That being the case, at least the state legislature is answerable to the voters unlike the bureaucrats in the DNR, which are not really answerable to anyone.

    Gents,

This is what happens when you get politicians involved in game laws. The current DNR and NRC Administrative Rules Process is not perfect by a long shot but it is MUCH better that a gaggle of politicians doing it.

Hunting ground in the southern part of the state will now lease for a higher price than even before.

Politicians, those within the DNR at least, have been involved in game laws for a long time. Again, this time at least the politicians involved have to answer to voters. And lets be very clear, opposition to rifles in the DNR is purely political as it is certainly not based on game management needs. If there is a sudden increase in the price of hunting leases in southern Indiana after such a law passes then that will only encourage the use of rifles to expand in the very near future.

Such over O/Us along with drillings (usually side by side shotgun on top with a rifle barrel underneath) have been popular in Europe for the better part of a century, so it wouldn't be a first.

It sounds like the 300 BO with a sig arm brace can be used while ground hunting, then switch to the normal rifle after you climb into your tree stand for the longer shots. I imagine carrying 2 rifle's is possible. Sling one and carry the other, then switch them after you climb into the stand. This juggling game sounds like so much fun, I may actually take up hunting some day.

If you get caught walking to your stand with your .50 bmg, just tell them you're hunting squirrels, rabbits, or coyotes on the ground. But when you get up 10 feet, you will hunt deer only.

Savage used to make a combo like that. I don't know what all combinations they made but I had a Savage .223/20 gauge for coyotes 23 years ago.
