    haha

No problem. Found myself first wondering if I was completely off.

(Totally non sequitur but "ego" is the transliterated spelling of "him" in Russian, even though it is pronounced "yevo.")

Another tidbit...ego is a direct transliteration from the greek ἐγώ which has the same meaning as in Latin

I would like to learn Russian....at least to an ability to read it.

Everyone hasta get paid. MRI venders. Pharmacy. 3 Docs. However many nurses. Receptionist(s). Janitor.

Why should the prices come down? You can't shop for price. You can't choose to give your business to someone who charges less for the same services. You really don't have many choices through the whole process.

yes i understand all of that as i am in business for myself too.......if prices was lower insurance would be lower and then no need for the government to step in and everyone could afford it......

same as a friend of mine that has a $160,000.00 helo ride that his insurance didn't cover and he is going to have to file for bankruptcy which will help drive the price of everything up.....

You'd probably like it. But, the sounds will probably be confusing, because Cyril and Methodius (the latter of which never got much credit) used Greek letters, but I'm not sure about the correlating sounds. Of course, if you're familiar with Old Church Slavonic (still used in some Orthodox liturgies, I believe), then it'll be easier.

The structure is very different from Romance languages like French and Spanish. Balto-slavic is a different branch of the Indo-european tree.

You nailed exactly why I would like to learn it and how I would probably start. I don't know Greek like the back of my hand but I learned what I do know by starting with the Liturgical Greek and then through its theological use in the early days. Still working on the vocab to read the classics in Greek.

I would like to do the same with Russian, but it would prove difficult because I have far more access to Greek resources.

30 years ago I could read the Latin texts, now I can't tell a verb from a pronoun.

So you won't appear foolish when you respond to me.

Why do you believe that you shouldn't?

Why? Not remembering everything one poster among thousands says, should be considered quite normal. Who are you that I should especially remember above the many others?

Okay, language geeks. This is the Trump thread. Language has no place here.

Who else thinks there will be violence at the inauguration? With all the celebs saying he must be stopped and it has to be taken inside, I'm thinking someone will act on it and then proclaim to be a trump supporter. I don't remember the threats of violence or "he must be stopped at all costs" when Obama was elected.

I haven't really looked, but I haven't seen threats of violence indicated at this inauguration. You have a source?

About the last week or so of Rosie' O donnel and her minions. She's been tweeting how it must be moved inside, must be stopped at all costs, etc.

    Isn't that what I said?

Maybe I misunderstood. You said, "While I don't like the program, they need to say either they aren't going to replace it (which is ideal), or have a plan in order to replace it immediately."

Saying they aren't going to replace it is not ideal.

I want it replaced with a market solution. I want consumers to be able to pressure costs down. I want medical businesses to decide, you know, maybe we can't afford to layers and layers of people just to make appointments for butt scoping.

It's ridiculous. I called to make an appointment for a colonoscopy. They told me I had to come in person. Okay, inconvenient, but whatever. I get there and see a receptionist, who told me to wait in the waiting area until I was called. So my name is called and I was led to a person who took my insurance info. Then I had to go back to the waiting area and wait for someone else to take some medical history info or whatever. Back to the waiting room and wait for someone else to call me in to see the lady who actually scheduled the appointment.

Damn she had a really nice office for someone who just makes appointments. Corner office. Floor-to-ceiling windows. Nice furniture--not that crappy steel/plastic office desk I have at work. Near as I can tell, that place was in business just to pay as many people as possible, and the byproduct of that was the butt scoping. It's like they had money coming out their asses. I want to be able to pass them up and go to some place where I can just make the appointment over the phone, and get the prescription called in for the nasty stuff that cleans you out. For a butt scoping, I shouldn't have to talk to but 2 or three people for the whole thing including the butt Doctor.. That's how it was when I had it done 20 years ago.

Well yeah, "not going to replace it(....with another govt program)." It's ok, I get called liberal enough, that it might seep in sometimes.
