Isn't that what this whole thread has been about all along?

I think that this thread is FAR and away more fair to the president, that ANY thread you'd find concerning the previous president. Have I not posted the positives from this administration, as well as the negative? I haven't even allowed petty criticism, which I feel free to point out, affect the overall score of what the president is actually attempting to accomplish.

No one is concerned that he just made the Sweden thing? But attacks the media as the enemy of the American people? If the previous president made up stuff like this most of you'd of gone apoplectic. Just because the media reports facts that you don't like, doesn't make them the enemy.

Also so who holds rallies after they're elected? Seems a total ego stroke and a total waste of money.

Just doesnt seem seem like he's getting anything done.

I doubt that no one is concerned, it's just that we can't keep up with all the stuff.

He just started his next campaign a bit early.
I saw people with 2020 signs at the rally.

    It's not a post 2016 victory rally, it's a pre 2020 campaign rally.

    1) Melania and the Lord's Prayer thing: is this the Trump approval or Melania approval thread. Granted, the latter would be more appealing in many ways. :) Regarding the actual issue people are making of it, as someone who's tried to learn a couple languages (to varying amounts of success), I'd prefer to read something like that, on a stage like that, than try to do it from memory. Especially if I'm not a trained, public speaker. The chance of messing up is significantly higher from memory, with the penalty for messing up much higher. It might've been a prop, but I give her credit for being smart about it, even if the accent is thick.

    2) The Sweden thing is MUCH a bigger deal than me. He either made it up, or divulged intelligence accidentally. Or misspoke. Which would be different if he was speaking a foreign language.

If they can get together and get the NFA repealed, I will be among the first to pat him on the back. It seems that many of the "Second Protects the First" and "One Issue Only" voters have lost interest in the gun rights issues. Where is the executive order that revokes the limitations placed on gun rights?

She spoke at his rally, she's fair game. I adhere to making non-political participants as being off-limits, but if you shine the spotlight on yourself, you open to criticisms. Abusing religion for political or personal gain, I despise.

actually that's not what he was referring to, but it was some random acts of violence that didn't happen "last night". Still very concerning he relies on Fox News as a source and not on the agency's we spend billions of dollars to gather intelligence.

From USA Todat....The Swedish Embassy in Washington reached out early Sunday to the State Department to find out what Trump meant, since neither the Swedish Foreign Ministry nor the Scandinavian country's national police were aware of a terror-related attack, the Dagens Nyheter newspaper reported.

It now appears that Trump's comments about Sweden were inspired by a Fox News segment on random violence in that country allegedly committed by refugees, not by anything that actually happened on Friday.
The president on Saturday was "referring to a report he had seen the previous night," White House spokesperson Sarah Sanders said, and "he was talking about rising crime and recent incidents in general, and not referring to a specific incident."
Late Sunday afternoon, the president tweeted, "My statement as to what's happening in Sweden was in reference to a story that was broadcast on @FoxNews concerning immigrants & Sweden."

Abusing religion? Don't you think that's a bit judgmental?

    Abusing or pandering?

I mean, it is rather odd to start a politically rally like that with the Lord's Prayer. Its almost like she said, "Honey, I vant to khelp wit this. Vhat can I do?" And so he came up with something for her to do that would not require much practice. Not like he can tell her no. About anything.

At the worst it is pandering. Docking a politician for using proxy family members for pandering is like docking them for breathing.

As for the Sweden thing, THAT is fearmongering. Works really well for campaigning, but once elected, it can serve to undermine an administration's goals. If he's still playing that card after the summer, it'll be a bad sign.

Are you referring to this specific instance or in general?

Well, kinda both. I mean, if the motives are transparently harmful, making that kind of judgment is justified. But to ascribe malignant motives to others when there may be more benign motives possible. In this situation, maybe it's just me being judgmental, but I thought that the level of angst leveled against Melania is a bit over the top for the situation.

I guess one could try to argue that pandering IS abusing, but I think it would be a stretch. Especially given that on a random Sunday, given human nature, a good chunk of the congregation is pandering.

As a non-religious person, I'm not going to make a personal judgment on the status of other people's religious state. I think of it in a more secular sense. She's either honestly representing her views or she's not. Was it pandering? Yeah, maybe to some extent. But, c'mon, it was just the Lord's Prayer. Was that "abusing religion"? That, to me, is not a call I care to make.

Not being a religious type, I'll leave that to those who are and their own conscience. Not addressing specific people here, just be mindful of your own motives as you look down your noses over the filled pews to cast judgement on the motives of others. I recall a sermon from when I was a religious person about that. Summed up, it was basically something to the effect of, you worry about your own motives and the state of your own salvation. Leave other people's motives for God to judge.

Do you think the one waiter at Mar a Lago who isn't a foreign spy feels really lonely and left out?

I dont think foreign countries need spies when the guests at Mar-a-Lago take pictures and post everything on Twitter.

They wouldn't learn much more by having an actual spy there. They get all their intel for free.

If there's a spy it's most likely someone working for some Democrats rather than a foreign country.
