IRL, when I was younger...yeah. Yeah, I did.

My dad's side of the family are navy men, going way back. I learned to swear early, often, and creatively.

Here, on INGO...well, I spent most of that time as a mod. I wanted to curse. Like, a lot. Moderating INGO can be too much like herding cats. Angry, feral cats. However, swearing tends to sound very juvenile to my middle-aged ear and I use it sparingly now, mostly for comedic effect.

Or when I hurt myself at work. Cussnado.

A few months ago, I decided to quit the habit of cussing. I just wanted to see if I could do it. I have been known to, on occasion, let a tirade of multisyllabilic cussing fly. But it was easier than I thought it would be. If only losing weight was that easy!

However, it often seems that it is almost a requirement to be a dick if you disagree with the minority opinion. At the point one gets personal, rather than attack the substance of an argument, then they have moved into dickdom.

    Kut (see it a lot)

I agree that happens. But often the consternation has a reason beyond just a different opinion. Cases in point: level.eleven, david890, even ddrees, and sometimes you. To the extent that it appears people are here to dissent just to troll, they tend not to be well treated. But admittedly those people are often enough mistaken as trolls.

Good some of this stuff is out in the open.
Yes, I am very active in the open as to many of the mods are not. They are here. We discuss a lot of what has been mentioned.
Yes, a lot goes on behind the green curtain that stays there.
Yes, I/we see the issues mentioned and if you look most of those issue have been dealt with.

I have friends in here. Many many friends. When any of them (rarely) start to go left of center they get a PM from me or they send me one apologizing.
I try and stay with the PM's over direct actions as, like has been said, we all have bad days and yes I am in that group sometimes.
I try and look at what a member brings to the forum. Positive/negative. As with our recently released friend he did on occasion offer something up. But the attitude usually led in his posts. Skirting the lines is an art that many have perfected.

All in all this is a great place.
If it were perfect there would be no need for a Mod staff.
Calling members out in the open is not the norm unless they call me out. Then it is up for all to see.

In your post the 1st 2 "X" members you mentioned were serious trolls. Angry.
Ddrees is fixed in his beliefs as we all are. Kut.................well......................there is only 1 Kut. Devils advocate extraordinaire.
And yes, when Kut is on the job I have to go look. Amazed/enlightened/confused pretty much covers this.
We all add something to the mix in here. I miss some of the guys that were voices in opposition to the norm. When they went nuclear death by mod they left a hole in the Forum. Some of those holes have never been filled. Some I hope never are. If I/we can keep the ebb and flow headed in a given direction that is the best way we see to Moderate the site. If I can go a month with out dusting off "Mighty Mouse" (hammer) I am good with that.

Although I had some objections with PaulF at the time, I actually think the forum benefited to have him (or someone like him) as a differing viewpoint when it comes to moderation.

When on the surface it's one mod doing all the work (obviously it's not, but bear with me here)... they have their way of moderating. They see certain things certain ways. I have to imagine you and PaulF have some pretty differing views on the big subjects that get discussed here.

So you're good at catching these sorts of offenders.... and Paul would be good at recognizing and catching the others.

... I dunno, sort of rambling... but I think MrJarrell would still be around if someone with perhaps views closer to him was on the mod team. People didn't like him, and he was dogpiled until he reacted poorly and got banned. If people **** on you all day, and you're expected to take it in stride... where's the fun in participating on the forum? Mods tended to side with the people that **** on him, so those people didn't (seemingly) get punished. But when J lashed out... Bam, red flag, gone. (I know there's more to it, but that's how it looks on the surface)

I think any INGO mod needs to be pro-2A. That goes without saying. But there are also subjects outside of guns that we're all over the place on, lots of different and strong opinions here, and that's awesome.

I don't know the demographics of the rest of the mod team, so maybe this is already the case. Paul brought that non-Republican, non-Religious, middle-of-the-ground type of view to the forum. He laid some moderation decisions down that I don't think other mods would have necessarily spoke up on.

    Good points.
I miss Paul. The staff miss him as well. Life happens.
One day he and I will have a C-Burger and I will try and drag him back in the fold.
There is a lot more discussion than folks know or see. MrJ was a big talking point and a lightning Rod. I would welcome him back personally. He would bring some good discussion. Heck I miss Rambone.

There is a lot more overview here than folks know.

This thread has hit the rev-limiter.
I believe KJQ is bringing another on on line.
The discussions had in here are needed I believe and the off the rails humor is to.
