That's one poor ugly excuse for a truck.

I would not buy a new truck or car now. Used prices are dropping like a rock. I don't give a crap what anyone is asking. They aren't getting it.

Low ball them and you will find someone desperate enough to sell at your price. New, not so much.

My math tells me a new truck purchase is a better investment then a used.

Lot of things to take into consideration.

How would a new truck purchase be a better investment?

I was in this spot 2 years ago. I was all set to spend $33k for a year old truck with 30k miles on it until I learned it was $35k for brand new, zero miles and a year newer. You can guess what I did.

With rebates of upwards of $5,000 on brand new full size pickups it's hard to buy a used one, unless you go a lot older. 20-25% off MSRP on a full size pickup is not uncommon and if you keep it any length of time it's your best bet. I managed 23% off MSRP on a 2016 I ordered and 26% off MSRP on the 2014 I had before that.

Last week I purchased a 2017 Silverado 1500 Crew 4x4 for ~71.5% MSRP, less than the same lot's ask on a 2015 with 20k miles on it.

I traded up from a 2016 Colorado Crew 4x4 (needed more towing capability) and the Silverado was less than 10% more than I paid the Colorado last year. Chevy has significant rebates & incentives going on Silverados right now...

I wouldn't worry about seeing that abomination on the road in the future. I'd be surprised if Chrysler is still in business by 2020. The CEO of Fiat Chrysler is actively seeking to sell off the Jeep and Ram brands to anyone who will take them.

    Or have a down payment....

That too. Either way, new is a much better deal than slightly used as long as the crazy rebates keep up. Since Ford won't want to lose the best selling title they've had for years, I bet they'll keep up.

Regardless, you've got to pay one way or another to drive a newer truck these days.

Ford is only best selling on paper as when you combine Chevy and GMC the numbers are much higher then Ford...
