I bought a Detective Special for no other reason than I made detective and it was called a Detective Special. Luckily, unless I become Chief I won't have to worry about that particular temptation again.
Hahahahahahahaha. Congratulations. And great you were able to still find one.

Bought one to save someone a drive. He mentioned that he had an offer to sell a gun but it would involve a drive of 90 minutes or so; I told him I would save him the trip for the price he was going to get.

I bought my first T/C Encore receiver because I won an auction for a 480 Ruger barrel on eBay and had nothing to put it on. It has led to many other frivolous T/C purchases.

Not a handgun, but I bought an IBM M1 Carbine because of similar logic. I'm a computer programmer/software tester. :):

That's funny cause it's the exact reason that I bought my IBM M1 Carbine. I spent 20+ years in software development and am now an info security architect. When I saw the IBM, it had to come home with me.

I buy pistols to keep them from ending up in the hands of Chicago gangs.

    :)
That reminds me of my dog. He was scared people in the pool would drown. If you started splashing and making noises, he would freak out and try to drink the pool. As if he could drink 35,000 gallons.

I remember a long while back an other INGO'er bought and assembled an aluminum frame for his Glock.

I'm pretty sure he did it for the sole purpose of upsetting Glawklovers. And it did. Boy did it ever upset their world. The comments. Lawdy.

"..a Smith & Wesson 645 for which I had no particular need, and no reason for buying other than the nostalgia of all that salivating as a kid, making it the most frivolous purchase I have yet made."

Same...but for an entirely different reason. Go back to 1987-1988. Best show on television then was Miami Vice. And everybody wanted to be Don Johnson, who of course by that time in the series, traded in his Bren Ten for a S&W 645. I was 22, started my handgun collection, so had a few really decent ones...and had to have a 645. So I went out, spent my hard earned money and bought one. I loved that gun and wish I still had it! Cleaned it every Friday night while watching Miami Vice.
 Ahh...youth. Wish I still had that gun, and would love to have one again, but no real need to do so. Other than to maybe watch a little Vice on Netflix and do a little cleaning! :):

Although I did research, pretty sure the reason I really bought a 1911 was because of the A Team. Hannibal running around with one all the time, cigar in, "I love it when a plan comes together." I had 3 at one time, but I'm at just one really nice one with a rail and Surefire on it for home defense.

Star BM: "Oh hey one place went out of stock, I clearly need to order one now while I still can."

Canik TP9SF: Went on a date, she didn't want to see me again, bought a FDE Turkish gat to make myself feel better. It worked!

Thats a great reason, after all, could be another scare, they sell out and then decide to stop making them.
Looks like the date went better after all.

My most frivolous handgun buy was a S&W Model 500 Revolver with an 8" barrel.
The thing is like a hand cannon!

Was up north at my old hometown local gun shop and they had one for a REALLY good price.
It was several years ago, and Teddy Kennedy was crying that "civilians shouldn't be allowed to own pistols like this".
I thought I've GOTTA have it if Teddy Kennedy hates me having it!

    It's basically a toy.
But I d have a shoulder holster for it.
I really freaked out my friends when I showed up wearing that hog leg.

They don't realize how many guns they sell saying that.
With me, it was the Clinton AWB and ARs. Now I have 3.
