    And they may be right.

You dont convert people like that with extreme behavior, even if it is lawful. Long gun carry is not a social norm in this country and is a turn off for them, so it is viewed as extreme. Are you ALLOWED? Yes. Is carrying a long gun the most effective way to protest AND win hearts and minds? NO!

If you want to convert a sheeple, you do so gently. You dont beat them over the head with your point or else you scare them and prevent them from coming to your side.

Restraint is appropriate at this event given the totality of circumstances. Sorry that upsets you.

EDIT: After more thought, I realized what you meant. I think I misinterpreted it as the OP and other like minded folks would claim victory for presenting a successful conservative show of solidarity, now I realize you mean the antis will claim victory. You assume they are expecting us to show up all rednecked out in our III-per gear ready for WW3. Im not even sure they are expecting a counter protest, let alone a show of force. I think you are over thinking it.

I have no problem with anyone that presents themselves respectfully as they EDC at a counter protest like this. Whether you OC or CC your handgun matters not to me in the context of this

I do encourage you to protest with your long guns, dont get me wrong. With that being said, a counter protest like this one is not the best place for long guns. The optics will definitely skew negative this time.

Called it. Doesnt look like carrying a long gun at a counter protest is very helpful, does it? Just gets their panties wadded up and prevents any meaningful dialogue.

But by all means, if you wish to carry like this at a protest, (not a counter) go for it. (I still dont think it is very productive)

EDIT: Please tell me how doing this helped us in a constructive way. How did it help that hysterical woman learn about our side?

Unfortunately I got tied up in a conversation w/ one person - only semi- productive - so I didn't get down to where the media where staged out ...

hey - the family that was in the star on our side just reached out to me on FB via IMAGC though - and basically said - where was everyone. ... :dunno:

April 14 - is now the thing - posts going up ... and more pick courtesy of DanV. (gracias sir!)

I'll be there. Considering bringing my kids (8 and 11) and Mrs Monkey too. Just weighing it carefully. We talk to our kids about this topic. They both genuinely have formed their own ideas on the topic and are on our side. (of course or I would have adopted them out already... that was sarcasm for anyone not affiliated with this board that is reading this) They both understand that bad people dont follow laws, and taking away good peoples' guns wont keep them safe. (duh!) But in a way I feel like it is using them as pawns, which I despise.

Ive got a couple weeks to think about it. I dont want to be seen as stooping to their level.

I just don't understand her hysteria. It's born from blind ignorance. We did get a 911 call of a "man with a gun" in front of the Statehouse...sigh. Of course we knew who the caller was referring to so there was no need to respond. We also had reports of people trying to grab the Gadsden flag from one of the guys there that was carrying it. We have no tolerance for that behavior. I thought it would have been more prudent to NOT have a mag in the rifle he was carrying. Maybe even chamber flagged. But to each their own.

Ironic how those folks like to try to "SWAT" people they dislike by folks carrying guns.

A message I received from someone on the other side of the picket line.

This is is how we will be heard, and even respected - by being reasonable. This is why I personally don’t see the value of OC at rallies/protests when the press/public will be present.

Imagery is everything to the antis. You could have made a point with a Star Wars blaster. Point being a good guy with a gun. Kids understand that imagery.

I defended the guy on Reddit, as people jumped to calling him a "jackass", "*******" with an automatic weapon, etc...

    I was not well-received.
