PDs have rules that need to be followed. Being a supervisor I would have talked to them and reminded them that they needed to notify someone that they were leaving training and going to assist. If someone above me decided to punish them, I would stand up for them as best I could. A suspension from SWAT is not a "wrist slap", but quite a bit more serious.

I said "wrist-slap" because they weren't, apparently, removed from the team. I understand the distinction you're making, though. I suppose it's somewhat equivalent to "suspension without pay?" At least, in terms of departmental view?

Not exactly. Suspension without pay means they sit at home and don't earn a paycheck. The two officers were removed from SWAT but still went to work in other capacities. Not as bad as suspension but worse than a slap on the wrist.

Hmm. I'm out of practice at this. Second time I've tried for an analogy for "middle ground" and missed. What you said was kind of what I was thinking, but I obviously didn't express myself well enough.

Elsewhere someone said the two SWAT cops didn't check in because their agency had already volunteered to assist but had been turned down by BCSD and they figured better to ask for forgiveness than permission. That's obviously unverified, but if it was true, would the response - and punishment - be expected responses if something like this happened locally?

I seriously hope IMPD brass wouldn't have the same response. We assist every other department in the county with manpower on a frequent basis. The biggest issue (in my opinion) would be the SWAT guys leaving mandated training, but a simple phone call to one of their Sgts or Lt would rectify that. Knowing the bosses they have, I'm sure the response would be to ask why they are wasting time talking on the phone.

I will not read that. Nope.

Why not? Nothing bad in it.
Short summary. Cruz told a school therapist 4 years ago that he had a dream on being threnched in blood at his school. The doc told the school who took action to develop a plan in case cruz did something. But i think this was at another school cruz was in not the one he shoot up

A bigger question is why so many crazies?
What is causing that in our society?
Is it something we are eating? Using?

Case in point the rise of autistic children some research suggest is due to our populations diet.

Same with why so many "nut/peanut" allergic kids vs last century 1900s?

I think the rate of potential crazies hasn't changed much over the years, but other factors have.

    • The population increased, so raw numbers of violent crazies is higher.
    • People with various issues that would have been eliminated from the gene pool in past generations (in various ways) are more likely to survive and reproduce now. I suppose this could actually increase the rate of crazies.
    • People who in the past would have just killed themselves now have have vehicles for instant infamy that didn't exist 25 years ago and earlier.
    • A much larger percentage of children are raised in emotional, moral, ethical, and psychological vacuums due to negligible parenting.
    • A increasing percentage of children are growing in a culture in which the social pressures that formerly helped regulate bad behavior are fading into oblivion. No one is allowed to criticize, correct, or shame anyone for behaviors that really should receive criticism, correction, and shame. Minor bad behaviors are less likely to be corrected and in the absence of boundaries, bad behavior is more likely to escalate.
    • Etc.

Because there has been enough come out about this sick young man and the failures of the system that followed him along his path.
The very system the left leaners think should over lord us.
Just more depressing facts about the epic failure of the people in that very system. Go back to Gabby Gifords shooter and come forward. A solid trail of "FAIL"

    It is beyond sad.

Florida prosecutor says he plans to seek death penalty against alleged Parkland school shooter.

With documented evidence that the state knew he was crazy 3 years ago? Seems like a risky move.

    Which makes it more likely.
    He's an embarrassment for them.
And if you question it, then they will have the pet media vilify you.

I see there has been some pedestrian bridge collapse in Florida. I wonder if the little darlings will have a walk out for common sense bridge controls?
