This thread has some age to it, but I doubt many opinions regarding Taurus have changed.

I have owned one Taurus firearm ever: a .38 Special revolver for a couple years close to a decade ago. It worked exactly as it should, and so I've had no bad experiences with Taurus products.

I've been acquiring firearms for several years now, and I feel like I have all of the bases generally covered, and so "need" isn't a concern when I am looking at something new. Without any needs, there's never a hurry or a need to compromise, so I am happy to save a bit longer and get the S&W instead of the comparable Taurus.

Would a Taurus gun work as it should and fill whatever role it was designed for? Yeah, it probably would. But I still don't want to buy it.

I had several Taurii and enjoyed most of them. The Gen 1 24/7 Pro DS was a great pistol, until the trigger needed servicing and Taurus confiscated it as part of their law suit recall. The Gen 2 was just not the same quality of the Gen 1, so I sold it ASAP. My TCP never ran right, so Taurus replaced it with a new one. I sold it immediately upon arrival, unfired.

I moved on to an FNH FNS-9 and a Colt Mustang. Doubt I will ever purchase another Taurus. Sad, but true.

Follow up on that FNH FNS-9 I bought to replace the Taurus that would fire when dropped, without using the trigger. I just learned yesterday that the FNH FNS-9 has the same problem, as proven by the Baltimore Police Department, and the Maricopa, AZ law enforcement people. :xmad: Guess I will have to look into S&W or Springfield.

Maybe the FNH fix of the striker will actually make the guns run safe, though. The would be nice.

I used to sell a lot of Taurus PT-111 G2s, and honestly, they aren't bad guns.Especially for the price point. I would sell them to people who would come in and want a Glock, but could only afford a little more than a Hipoint. I directed them to the Pt111 G2. 12+1 capacity of 9mm and two mags out of the box. If you can afford better, buy better, but for $200 there isn't much better.

I bought a Taurus Model 44 6.5" ported barrel in 1991. I have over 5,000 rds through it all 44 magnum power. It's still working great. I did have a trigger job done on it because the double action pull was horrible. It felt lIke a 18lb pull lol. Single action is amazing. A 2.5lb pull.

Still have it, still shoot it, but not like I used to when younger. It was my 1st handgun.

I fondled a 44 mag Taurus Tracker at the LGS last week that I was impressed with. It would be a handful to shoot but the trigger was really good in both SA and DA.

I have had maybe 3 Trackers. 2 were in .17HMR and one was in .357.
I had issues with both the .17's but easily fixed.
They were all decent shooters. Both the .17s had yotes on them.

The two Trackers I have had in the past had somewhat heavy trigger pulls, but a spring kit fixed that. I had to play around with the .22 cal to get it to be reliable on double action

Taking a yote with a 17hmr pistol is an accomplishment.

Good friend has a pretty good plot of land he has groomed to hunt. He took my .17 in the stand with him. He sees more yotes than deer some days. Patience and skills. Drops them pretty quick.
I would bet he took 6 or more with each of the 2 that I had. He bought one of them and I am sure he has taken several more.

That was the issues with the 2 I had. They would hit the round hard enough to deform it and then the cylinder would lock up on the deformed round. Did the spring thing and off to the races.

PT-92 my favorite and highly recommended
Tracker 357 Mag very solid & accurate
Several other revolvers over the years all basically good

Still like the PT-92's a lot....better than Beretta cuz the 1911-style safety is best.
