The F-14 is among my absolute all time favorite military aircraft. I was sad to see it retired. But its replacements are well up to the tasks at hand.

Ah yes, my all time fav plane, the Vought F-4U Cosair As fast as a P-51, never got the recognition it deserved.
My second fav is the F-14, the ability to dance in the sky like a ballerina one second and the next second to move at the speed of a sprinter while able to target 7 different targets at once, the HUD displays used to be manufactured at Naval Avionics ( Now Rayathon ) in Indianapolis if I was told correctly.

That's a great photo! You can actually see the movement of the plane down the fly deck by observing the spin of the prop tracking the white tips as it rolls forward!

Bumping this thread THREE YEARS LATER to report the movie is finally out and it's freaking awesome. The third act is basically an Ace Combat level. Could have sworn I heard the clouds speaking Latin.

OK. I only saw 1 shot with the F-14 which in fact was the star of the original TG flic. That is gonna suck. But I will watch this one.

The trailer just dropped today. I actually do like Tom Cruise, the guy can make some great, action movies. I will make the trip to the theater to see this one.

Saw it last night, it was the biggest crowd I'd seen in a theater in a LONG time. I wasn't expecting any more than the original but this one blows the original one away. Even the wife enjoyed it and she usually just nods politely in agreement! TC did a short intro to the movie and you could tell they truly enjoyed making this one.

Saw it at the Imax last night. That is THE way to see it! My girls loved it as much as my boys, for sure. We went to the State Museum Imax. I like the steep angle of the seating. It puts you IN the jet!

It's just TC talking about the production, actually flying the birds, G's, etc. but his enthusiasm about the whole thing appeared genuine.

I'm guessing that the millions he has/will earn on this role played into it but still, I'm going to cut him a little slack.

Not in the intro but there is one scene where he is launching from a carrier and that WAS him launching from a carrier and not in a two seater either.

I went an saw it last night with my wife. I think she liked it more than I did. Of course, all the young buff men might had had more to do with it than the storyline. Overall it was a good movie, with the typical Hollywood embellishments. Glad to see it was not a "woke" movie.
