You guys need to talk to this guy at my work place the things he tells you, you would think he's nuts. They actually made sense for the most part. Just one of those people that doesn't believe anything and will challenge everything to disprove or debunk it.

In all seriousness though, conspiracy theories originate out of the belief of nefarious people working together to do dastardly deeds, and that no one is incorruptible, be it your local drug dealer to the highest government position in the land. The history of the term has its own theory as well, but today is used as a tool to "gridlock" discussions as others have mentioned in this thread. I've seen and fought against this tactic many times, especially with a relatively recently added Shooter on this site.

There is a spectrum to this. There are those who talk about theories such as the Defense Industry influencing politics to keep us at war, or manufacturers designing yearly obsolescence in their products to sell more product. Then there are those that think the moon is made of cheese, or that ducks are really Chinese spies.

One of my friends recently became a flat-earther, and though the point of this post is not to prove or disprove that theory, one of his arguments was literally "the Globe and The Globalists, don't you see the connection?" I really hope he was joking with that, because it's stuff like that that hurts discussions of legitimate conspiracies.

Hate to break it to the naysayers, but conspiracies do happen. People have been trying to pull one over others for millennia, that hasn't changed in the past few decades. At the same time, some "conspiracy nuts" are their own worst enemy, and don't do any favors for the community. An example is the Bigfoot, Yeti, Sasquatch, etc. phenomenon. There are legitimate researchers and scientists in the field of cryptozoology, and new species are being found constantly, especially in the ocean. But a lot of "Bigfoot researchers" hear a twig snap in the woods, and immediately start talking nonsense, pushing rational people away from those trying to take it seriously.

Personally I like a good conspiracy theory.....A) it keeps your mind sharp if you truly explore it and B) some where in that theory there is some truth.....where will the truth lead you......the truth is stranger than fiction......

I did not realize how big of a thing that is. My Tweeter was covered up with posts about that. They do make some interesting points that make you go, huh...
