      Refinish Savage 1907 and S&W M1917?

As a quick note to Walt, haven't had the M1917 out in a while, but believe that it is a military contract piece. Wanted to thank everyone for the comments. They are appreciated.

      Refinish Savage 1907 and S&W M1917?

I'm considering getting these refinished. Both guns are in good mechanical shape, but not cosmetically. Neither gun is close to museum quality. The Savage has roughly 50% finish remaining. Original barrel was bulged, and the person (not me!) who removed the barrel from the slide damaged...

Tell me about your funny or crazy gun malfunctions. I'll tell you some of mine.

Sort of a malfunction, but not entirely. Eons ago, purchased a Charter Arms Bulldog. (Not a good purchase, but more on that another day.) Was trying to get some good, controllable reloads, with some 240 gr. jacketed soft point bullets. Trying various light loads in order to get best...

      KelTec .380 question.

Definitely recommend thektog.org. Lots of good information there.

      10 MM Pistol, Which One?

I'm a little partial to my Smith 610 and 1086. The 610 is one of the most accurate revolvers I've ever fired. The 1086 is a much more comfortable fit for me than the Glocks. Your mileage may vary....... but these work for me.

      Reblue M1917?

I have a user grade S&W M1917. (My classification.) Mechanically, good condition. The bore is pretty nice. BUT, the exterior, not so much. Part of the military stamping on the buttframe is gone. Filed off. There is some speckling of rust here and there. The remaining finish is roughly...

      S&W 3rd Gen Semi Autos

Stumbled across a 1086 some time back. Very nice. Collectability somewhat hampered by previous owner installing factory adjustable sights. Bought it anyhow. Nice companion for my 610. JGalt

Who has tried the Steyer 9mm?

I've owned two of these, 9mm and 40S&W. These are great pistols. Unfortunately, the ergonomics did not work for me. The curved part of the frame that sort of overhangs the top of the hand consistently hit the joint at the base of my thumb. Wound up getting very uncomfortable very quickly...

      Savage 10FCP-SR 24" 308win, Video Review

I had occasion some years ago to buy a second hand Savage 10FP, which is the 20in heavy barrel in .308. (Pre Accu-trigger model) Paid all of a whopping $300 for it. Near new, and looked like it had only been test-fired. With Federal Gold Medal Match in 168 grain, I've gotten half inch five...

      Not a Good Shot (AR-15)

These are all good suggestions. But, I've not seen anyone suggest that you let a friend try out your rifle. This would be a quick and very easy way to see if it might be your technique, or if it is strictly hardware. Most of my ARs will shoot minute of angle or less from a bench at 100 yards...

Best NON-GLOCK 9mm full sized handgun

Purely my experience: Springfield XD - Great ergonomics, and the most accurate 9mm I've owned, particularly with cheap Blazer 9mm. Steyr M9 - Liked it a LOT, other than having the base of the thumb wacked with each shot from recoil. If not for that, I'd still have it. Neither was ammo...

"Our man" Senator Joe Donnelly votes yeah for every gun control bill offered.

Two examples of my experience with Lugar - Without exception, when I called his office to inquire about his position on a particular piece of legislation, I would always be told that "the senator hadn't made his mind up." This was the case even when there was a matter of mere hours until the...

Boone County Conservation Club likely closing later this year

As mentioned earlier, the information given out was that the directors will take the funds and donate the proceeds to various causes, such as 4H. When asked about relocation, the response was that it was not going to be done. Various excuses were given, but the bottom line is that it isn't...

Boone County Conservation Club likely closing later this year

Great suggestion! This was brought up to one of the club officers. His response was that they weren't going to do this, because a number of directors "had close ties to the city". When he said this, the reply was: So the club is just going to accept this and close down? He said that it...

Boone County Conservation Club likely closing later this year

In regards to your comments about children's soccer, the city and their zoning board were the ones who decided not to have a buffer zone, which is somewhat odd, since the club has been in existence for many decades. I'd say that any parent concerned with safety should speak with the zoning...
