I took out fencing around 15 acres back in Indiana. Use your loader to nudge a post to break suction. Then wrap a chain around the base so it tightens under pressure and attach the other end to the loader and lift straight up. The job goes real fast with two people. My wife and did the 15 acres...
You might try a local weld shop and just have them weld up 3/8 or 1/2 thick aluminum/steel plate in the dimensions you want. 1/4" plate would probably work for the back but I would stick with 3/8 or 1/2 for the sides if you add wheels later. You could try that out before investing more money. If...
This design will require very smooth ground and very short grass. It is basically a moving grain shovel and will just push the manure around in tall grass or rough ground. One suggestion on a better design would be to make the leading edge into multiple sections pivoting on an axle, sort of like...
Unless your pasture is well established I would use a chain drag to break up and spread the manure. Breaking it up will fertilize, minimize weed growth, and help fly control.
Here are a few of the the things I learned in doing the table in post#123 above.
1. Use plenty of seal coats - at least 3 (and seal any openings on bottom that could allow bubbles on top - modeling clay can be used on bottom and removed after project completion)
2. Temperature and humidity are...
Almost exactly two years ago we were flooded by hurricane Florence and had a dozen or more oaks and hickories uprooted. Since then we have rebuilt, elevated, and moved back into our log cabin. I have also cut and milled many of the fallen trees. Below are some of the works from that lumber.
I...
I've been getting colonoscopies for over 30 years now. I also have problems swallowing at times and have to have my esophagus stretched (a procedure called an esophogeal dilation) every few years. Yep, they were able to do both the colonoscopy and the esophageal dilation during my last...
The eye passed directly over us last night around 1am. We had sustained winds of 85mph. We were a little concerned being up 12 feet on pilings but there were no problems. Only lost electricity for 2 or 3 minutes. Satellite TV is out but that is not a big loss for me. We haven't found any damage...
It looks like we are in the direct path of Hurricane Isaias which will hopefully be downgraded to a tropical storm before it hits. I Just serviced our generators and have 60 gallons of gas (with 20 more in equipment). Will be putting up all loose items tomorrow. We have a hand pump on a 2nd well...
We live next to a wetlands here in southeast North Carolina and this is the first year the mosquitos have been really bad. I have noticed the absence of bats and fewer dragonflies. The dragon flies I have seen are acting strangely. They will actually land on you. I have never had this happen...
When a politician screws up their supporters always sound like a gang banger's mom: "He was a good boy", "He was just turning things around", "He just fell in with the wrong people", etc., etc.
We were without power for almost 2 weeks after hurricane Matthew and it was only slightly uncomfortable. Since then we have added a PTO generator for the diesel tractor, 15kw of gas generator power, and fuel tanks to run them for several months during hurricane seasons.
Property is well guarded...
When I ride I check my mirrors maybe once a minute for emergency vehicles. I never focus on watching traffic behind me because the most hazards and dangers are in front of me. I'm not responsible for people behind me that have to travel faster than me for whatever reason.
Vacuum windshield wipers - one of the worst designs in cars ever. They operated fine while maintaing a speed but if you accelerated to pass another car they would stop working. Passing another car required a plan and patience in heavy rain.
Mowing the lawn with a push reel mower. Eventually we got a motorized reel mower without a recoil rope starter. You had to wrap a rope around a pulley on the flywheel each time you tried to start it.
Telephones without buttons or dials. You had to make all calls through an operator. Calls made to your phone had a specific ring pattern and any other ring pattern were for neighbors on your party line.
Dorian passed by us last night and now just minor clean up of limbs. One hickory tree snapped halfway up from possible tornado before the main storm. Originally we were expected to be flooded in without it getting to the buildings but that has been revised way down. Hopefully we can get our...
