its quite possible it was the spring plug that hit me. i wasn't paying a hole lot of attention at what was coming toward my face.

your lack of attention is what got you a black eye, not the 1911.

Practicing interior deployment and firing I once held my 1911 a wee bit too close to my face and got a nice gash from the recoil. Didn't leave a mark although it could have broken the bridge of my nose...

Twasn't ME. but someone very CLOSE to me, took a rest on the hood of their '75 Chevy Pickup with a S&W "Highway Patrolman" Mod. 28 once... Hammer Spur left a nice/bloody dent in the bridge of his nose.....
