ok, i'm not trying to be smart butt, but could you explain why you would stock up on pool shock to make bleach and not just stock up on bleach? is it because bleach goes bad faster?

    thanks

    jake

    6 month shelf life.

One small pound bag for $4.00 can make enough bleach to make 10,000 gallons of drinking water. Store it carefully.

Jar, high calories lots of protein

I keep warning people that peanut butter goes rancid pretty quickly. Rotate carefully and often. The high calories is due to high fat and the fat oxidizes into peroxides. Ever taste rancid peanuts or peanut butter. Yeeech, just can't get that taste out of your mouth.

I have never in my life ever had a jar of peanut butter go bad. It doesn't sit long enough to go bad around here. Don't buy it in a 5 pound bucket or eat it faster.

Store cans or jars of dry roasted peanuts and make the PB as you need it.

Exactly. Do the legwork yourself. Figure the calories and nutritional needs of you and or your family members and then come up with a basic menu plan that fills those needs. For example. While 37 food items would be nice, I can only think of about a half dozen I need to live forever on. I am hard pressed to come up with ten. Add a big bottle of multi vitamins and you are set.

    1. White rice
    2. Mixed beans
    3. Canned meat
    4. Canned fruit
    5. Canned tomatos
    6. Cooking oil

    I'll go on.

    7. Honey
    8. Soup mix
    9. Dried milk
    10. I dunno, skittles or something.

I'm not saying its a great way to eat, but its better than millions of people eat in 3rd world countries and better than our pioneer ancestors ate some years. It can be done.

In africa rice, wheat & beans are like Steak, Lobster & Scallops for them. The facinating thing about some of these grains is that they expand. For example, 1 cup of rice might not seem like a lot, but when you add water and boil it, it expands making it fuller. Like with wheat, when grounded into flour and turned into dough, it expands when baked and turned into bread.

My friend who lives out in the country, his dad canns meat. He opened a jar of canned pork and we cooked some rice and added some beans= :thatshot:
    Delicious!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sufficiently strong alcohol will not expire. Weak with other ingredients mixed in will.

Its a disinfectant. More likely to evaporate if not sealed correctly.

Its never lasted long enough for me to test this though.

Its storage life is about 18mo. We rotate it out much faster than that though.
