A .40 is the last caliber I'd buy in today's world. Couple years ago the market was flooded with police department trade ins and people offloading .40's left and right. The popularity of that caliber is dying off, which means the supply, variety, and availability of the ammo will drop off with time. If you're buying a gun knowing you'll never shoot more than 500 rounds through it then you'd probably be fine. If this is going to to get used in training classes or actually practiced with using live ammo then just stay away from .40. Nothing wrong with the caliber on any level of performance, it's a matter of logistics that makes me wonder a guy would want the headaches. For example, how hard is it to get spare parts for a comparable glock 9mm vs the .40? Today it's one situation, in three years it may be a completely different situation.
you said, "how hard is it to get spare parts for a comparable Glock 9mm vs the .40?" If for example it's a G22 Gen 3, the parts of a Glock 19 Gen 3...almost all internal parts can be had. But if you're worried start buying up parts. There's a parts store that sells a lot of parts for Gen2-Gen5. Can I mention the website here?

OK, for clarity I’ll spill the beans. In July 2016 when the wife and I saw billery get the dem. nod. We (not knowing what would happen) almost immediately headed to my favorite LGS to find our best option for hi-cap mag fed auto side arms. It was August, we found 3 identical new in box Mod.22 w/2 15 rnd. mags. At the same time we bought 1000 rounds of hi quality ball. We put them in the dark place with the bags of “do not eat” and that is where they have been since. Now 6 1/2 years later I’m wondering if now might be the time to trade up or across. Or small possibility hold. I follow the gun market fairly closely, the mod. 22 has been flat for quite a while. New has gained only 12 bucks since new, used has dropped. Don’t think I need another AR, but there could be other better options out there. Thanks to every single one of you for your frank answers.
Except for a few very rare exceptions, polymer striker-fired pistols are not investments in the monetary sense. They are a wise investment in the sense of their potential use as a life saving tool. That's it.

If you "invested" in Glock 22 pistols in this manner, you've lost in both a monetary sense and in a practical sense. Pricewise, I can buy police surplus Glock 22 pistols for $299 apiece all day. Barring another Miami firefight where FBI blames 9mm again, 40 caliber will not be resurging. It's not going anywhere due to the vast amount of pistols already in circulation, but it's not going to be the LE standard or as popular as it once was ever again.

Practically, a firearm that you bought and stashed away without ever firing, to the point where you have to ask strangers how they shoot, is utter nonsense. The entire value of this type of firearm is it's usefulness as a tool. Period. Full stop.

If you're worried about $12 differences, you're gonna cry when you try to trade these Glocks off. My advice would be to keep them and learn to shoot them, thus realizing their actual value, or take the loss and trade them for something you will actually familiarize yourself with and use. Maybe a couple of Glocks in 9mm. You could even dry fire them this time.

I just read this whole thread.

Whole lot of truth in this thread.
    Muzzle flip.
Gen 5 doesn't fit a lot of optics out of the box.
    40 won't break your gun.
9 is easier to mag dumb for those illegal follow up shots.
    40 makes a bigger whole.
And that Axe gun, I'd rub that on my

I have a Ruger 22 cal, an Sig P220 45 cal, a Gen 1 G17, three Gen 3 40 cal. I love them all and in case someone forgot to mention - Glocks are made in Georgia, United States of America. There are Glocks made in AU (Austria) but those must be ordered unless already here.
That’s only partially correct. The majority of Glocks sold here are made in Austria actually the ONLY reason Glocks even started making them here was to get around the import point scale for the smaller guns. That was why until recently the US was refused to be able to get the Glock 25 and Glock 28 as they were the same size as the 19/26 but the 380 chambering out them under the point threshold to import.

And the only USA marked Glocks are Gen 4 and later

The cover this in any Glock armorer or operator class.

Go to any store and see how many USA vs Austria makes Glocks you see.

I wouldn’t worry about arguing with this one trick pony, he was obviously here to make an attack. In this thread then in General Political (Texas thread). The mods if they wanted to could follow him and his either shill or compatriot.

One member said he broke his personal record for making it to his ignore list. One member postulated he was a drunk. Opened his account in 2022 first post in 2024, don’t see him as being a contributor to anything good on INGO.
