Seen this the other day. Wife likes crab but I don't so she only gets it a few times a year. Was already overpriced can't wait to see what it'll cost in another 3-6 months

It seems like it's about double the price around me right now, at least the sale price. And that was before this was announced.

A local restaurant has Snow Crab Legs on their buffet every Friday. A couple years ago it was $19.95 a person. This spring when I drove by it was $44.95 a person. I can only imagine what it is going to be now.

We used to have New Orleans House (seafood buffet) here up around 86th and Township Line Rd.. Back in the day (late 80's, early 90's), it was 25 bucks per person. It's out of business now, but I can't imagine what they'd charge now if they were still open.

My wife was telling me about this over canarabals on the patio…

Jokingly told her that we need to check The Deadliest Catch web page for details. We are both crab fans

We miss the fri sat night seafood buffet at Andersons Casino. The buffet closed during Covid and they have since closed it for good.
Like Journey Buffet in Castleton, snow crab gone a year and a half ago. Never to return.

That’s pretty cool. Agreed, about Indy’s seafood. The best crab that I have had, outside of fresh while in Cali, was Shaws in Schaumburg. IMO Shaws is better than Chins

I'm wondering what environmental situation caused this.
This what the MSM is saying...

Scientists need to conduct further research to determine what exactly caused this year's snow crab population crash. But the devastation comes three years after record heat hit the Bering Sea in 2019 — just as the crab population appeared to be booming.

Polar regions, including Alaska, are warming faster than the rest of the planet as human-driven greenhouse gas emissions trap more heat and raise global temperatures. Scientists suspect those rising water temperatures are driving the crash of some of the world's most popular crabs.

"We're along for the ride. It's hard to predict or pretend we could have influences on a stock that is subject to Mother Nature and climate change," Miranda Westphal, an area management biologist with the Alaska Department of Fish and Game, told NBC. "They need time and space and favorable conditions to rebuild."

It is really expensive to harvest, process, ship crab, AND government regulations…
