Is this view a capitulation that their communist/psuedo capitalist model works better than our capitalist/psuedo socialist model?

I believe communism and socialism are inherently immoral at their core so I’m not sure what you’re getting at. China is largely homogenous and has a deeply embedded culture so communism has the best chance to “succeed” under those conditions, but no I’m always going to be in favor of free market capitalism and the autonomy of the individual.

Could you imagine what kind of domestic support the NBA would get if Adam Silver just totally said screw you to China? If he had a “tear down this wall” moment? That would be epic.

Im not sure their domestic revenue would be affected much, not sure many people would start watching nba because of it.

Actually, I believe China is proof that capitalists will indeed compete to sell the rope with which they will be hung

Isn't that like saying that the welfare queen who doesn't work a day in her life but lives comfortably on her welfare is a "better" model than the the life of the worker next door? China, like most communist countries, lives on the largess of the producing/consuming nations around it. It has done better than the Soviets with their pseudo-capitalist approach to trade, but frankly the moment we stop feeding them they either need to declare war on the entirety of eastern Asia or starve.

I hadn't heard that argument before, that china is a welfare queen entirely dependent/leaching on us?

    .
One day the people over there will start asking for more control over their own destiny. When that happens this country will have to decide if we want to support the freedom fighters or the people who make our light bulbs. Either way the boats will stop and for a while we will be SOL.

You're point is logistically sound, but practically flawed. China has already seen that war gets them nowhere, and that economic power is much more persuasive. No one really can play hardball with China, because those of us that consume their products will always buy. People would much rather have their cheap widgets than pay more to make China level the playing field. China can, and would outlast us, mainly because they are completely willing to let hundreds of millions of their people starve. That's my opinion anyways.

People playing economic footsie with the ChiComs are the same as those who thought doing business with Japan and Germany before we declared war in WWII was just fine as long as it helped the bottom line or put cheap crap on their table (okay, not so much cheap crap from the Germans, more like really nice knives and guns but still from the enemy).

I hadn't thought of it like this. The difference would be we didn't really know about german concentration camps or the rape of nanking. We know china has hundreds of thousands of Uyghurs in concentration camps which makes what we're doing now almost worse.

That and its not like there isn't cheap labor in other countries.

People choose not to see the tea leaves let alone read them when they are making a quick buck. But the ChiComs have made no pretense about their objectives...Xi's published "China Dream" says that they will be the dominant power on the planet economically and militarily by 2050. We shouldn't want to sit by and pay their way to owning our shackles.

Do we really want the dominant economy on the planet to be communist? Because it will end the way communism always does, with starvation and genocide. When the last productive economy feeding the ChiCom leviathan dies so will most of the planet.

Then do what you can about it. Stop buying things made in ChiComland, tell all your friends to stop, tell all your politicians to stop. The least we can do is raise a little awareness.
