I don't plan on shooting .22LR out of my AR. I'm going with the 5.56. I was just curious about how interchangeable .223 and 5.56 actually were
Go with 5.56. The round has just a tad bit bigger tolerances than .223. It's recommended that it is better to shoot .223 out of a 5.56 than the other way around.

Thanks for the info. I have a fairly good idea of what I need now, and what I want. Unfortunately "Operation Build Kick-Ass AR in Garage" is going to be put on the back burner for awhile :(. My resources are going to be going towards Marlin Model 60 parts, Mossberg 500, and pretty soon getting ripped off on college textbooks.

I hear ya, gotta prioritize I guess. It's probably just as well because once you get the AR bug it tends to absorb a lot of resources. :D

Good luck and don't give up on the AR build even if you have to piece it together a bit at a time as funds will allow. Trust me there have been a lot of us that have went that route.

That's the plan. I'm basically gonna wind up buying my AR part by part.

    I love my Double Star!

I've had Colt snobs turn up their nose to my Double Star, but every time I ask them to specifically tell what makes theirs better- more durable- accurate... they get real quiet. My friend has a high-end, expensive Daniel's Defense... he pointed out to me that my Double Star had a better stock trigger, and that we both shot it more accurately than his Daniel's. I think DS is very under-rated, only because people aren't as familiar with them. When I get another AR, it will also be a DS. Love them!
I wouldn't classify myself as a Colt snob for owning a few colt ar's preban/postban as well as some others including s&w, noveske and bushmaster. but my experience wasn't so great with DS. I had bought an upper for a build in 2009 and it would not fit up with my colt lower. I ended up selling and getting a bushy upper instead. That being said I didn't have a DS lower to mate it with so I can't commit on that. Granted others like yourself have had a good experience with DS thats why we are seeing more and more people buying them. For me Id rather stick with PSA or Spikes if I was to do it all again.:twocents:
